Howie thread for the week--note that Howie Carr has been suspended by WRKO/Entercom for the week of Apr. 19 due to his badmouthing the station. Various fill in hosts. If there are any Howie columns they will appear here.
Things have gotten ugly at the "sneaker building" (the New Balance bldg in Brighton where WRKO is) as WRKO management has finally had enough of Howie's on-air digs at him. Stay tuned here for commentary on this, the usual fun, and so on
Thanks Raccoon! Wolfe and his boss Kahn are androids.
But if you ger a reply, I’d like to see it.
now someone on a radio board claims the whale comment referred to a pic of a whale on the RKO site promoting an Alaskan cruise and they dubbed the whale Howie not Sandy...?
Really? REALLY? Unreal. You know, for someone that had a letter written against him and sent to a Federal judge, Tommy Taxes REALLY should not even look in Howie’s (or any of his staff) direction.
I've got to run anyway... Sean Hannity will be on in my car via XM Radio. The hell with Col. Hunt. :-(
WRKO (and WEEI and WAAF) is ‘suspended’ from my car and home radios, replaced with 1200 Rush Radio and 98.5 Sports Hub.
Hunt sucks. He's a brainwashed liberal. Thank you for serving in the military, and now piss off, Hunt. I turned him off even before I ‘suspended’ WRKO. A chimp with a tin cup has more sense and talent than Hunt.
Raccoon, you should fill in for Howie - that I'd listen to!
*cough* blues show 91.7 Salem MA wmwmonline.com
Sunday 12-3 pm :)
(that is, I _am_ on the radio, at least once or twice a month!) But thanks!

but not the Herald)
Whitey Bulger sightings one for the books
By Howie Carr | Wednesday, April 21, 2010 | http://www.bostonherald.com
PALM BEACH - Whitey Bulger, on the Pacific coast of Canada? Hope Im wrong but I cant see it myself - Id pass on that screenplay.
I suspect the FBI would be more likely to find him right here, in one of the original sunny places for shady people, among them his brother, who greatly enjoyed the Breakers, at least until they took away the Corrupt Midgets UMass expense account.
So the feds were on Vancouver Island in British Columbia last week, visiting bookstores because Whitey is a reader.
Even if they inevitably do turn out to be mirages, Whitey sightings dont bother me - they sell books. The difference now is, a sighting isnt stop-the-presses news like it used to be. In the old days, the wise guys lined up wanting to get a cutting remark into the paper about King Rat. Now, a sighting generates mostly yawns.
I called one of the old gang yesterday and asked if he wanted to throw in his two cents. He laughed.
Its all yours, he said. No comment.
At least this latest news gives me the opportunity to gratuitously print a mugshot I recently came across of one of Whiteys lieutenants, Kevin Squeaks, I mean, Weeks, as in Two Weeks, which was how long he stood up after he was arrested in 1999.
Whitey had been gone about five years when the feds snapped this photo of Weeks, which works out to about one new chin per annum. Suppose by some miracle the G-men do lug Whitey before he assumes room temperature, and he gets a chance to see the old gang assembled in the courtroom. If that happened, I think Whitey would turn around from the defense table and tell them, Nice to see none of you have let your troubles affect your appetites.
But cmon - what are the odds now that the cops grab him before hes in extremis, and in the last few moments of being worth $2 million in reward money to his beyond-greedy family members?
There hasnt been a confirmed sighting of Whitey in North America since 1996. If you told me hed been spotted in Montreal, OK. Maybe he forgot to clear out all of his safe-deposit boxes where he had all that cash stashed back in the late 1980s.
Wherever he is, if you see him before I do, mention one thing to him. I just came across some old, musty documents in which Stevie Flemmi claimed Whitey had a 15-year-old girlfriend and her first name was . . . well, Ill leave that out.
Come out with your hands up, Whitey! Youre just what I need to get a sixth printing for the paperback.

I know Raccoon, I’ve listened. And you could do a fine job on ‘RKO.
Hunt has 0 talent. I could do a better job than him.
I wonder why Howie insists on using Colonel Hunt as a fill in host.
Just the flow of the show sounds like amateur hour, but he is not getting better at it, and is alienating more of Howies listeners.
Howie has to know this because of the complaints, but still has him on. He used to be a good call in reference to war related news topics, but lately those have become useless
I just wonder if Howie is using the Colonel to make himself look better as the fulltime host, to stick it to WRKO with lower ratings or maybe Howie just agrees with him.
I think its the latter, because look at the way Howie lets Steve from Montreal attack America with very little defense from Howie.
When Howie creates a good four hours of radio, he is the best in New England.
But, when the show is weak, anyone with a computer/Iphone/Ipad/Sat. Radio/ has a large amount of options for live and Podcasted talk radio options to replace him
I hope this situation is resolved next week
Fri column ping. btw in the month of March WRKO’s ratings dipped slightly while WXKS 1200 (Rush Radio) has ratings almost 4 times as high as what they used to have under
Spanish (0.3 to 1.1) It’s a start and note that these numbers were BEFORE WXKS started local talk (Jeff Katz,
mornings). How high would they be if they got to hire Howie?

Web of trouble for gang of rebate-challenged Mass. hacks
By Howie Carr | Friday, April 23, 2010 | http://www.bostonherald.com | Columnists
Dont worry about that new Obamacare health plan folks - by the time you have to call the toll-free government hotline to schedule your lung transplant all these little snafus will be straightened out.
How Massachusetts was it yesterday - these hacks cant even manage to give away other peoples money without screwing it up to a fare-the-well.
Rebates to buy new Energy Star appliances to replace old appliances that may or may not be energy-efficient. Hey, sounds like Cash for Clunkers, and we all know how well-managed that was. So now Taxachusetts comes up with its own Money for Maytags, Kenmores for Cash.
On Tuesday, one of Deval Patricks inept $105,000-a-year minions assured us nothing could possibly go wrong, that the Web system was overbuilt.
Less than 48 hours later, the exact same hack was mumbling, The system is struggling to accommodate all the people interested in this.
They announce theyre giving away free money and then theyre amazed at the response! Please, try not to let this destroy your faith in Earth Day.
I heard about this latest Deval disaster from a friend of mine shortly after 10 yesterday. I called the Herald city editor to give her a heads up.
I know, she said. Im trying to get through myself and it comes back error.
Have you tried the phone number yet? I asked her. She hadnt.
Dont bother, I said. It doesnt work either.
Heres the only-in-the-hackerama twist: There was a second, back-door Web address to get to the free money. But for at least an hour or so, the only way you would have known to use that sneaky address was if you happened onto the right blog . . . or, perhaps if you, uh, knew someone who knew someone.
By the time the payroll patriots got around to posting the backup address online for the actual taxpayers, most of the $6.6 million was gone.
Of course, the clowns behind this Crash for Clunkers are the same dolts who gave us the Big Dig, Bunker Hill Day, the Easter toll backups and the RMV branch closings. And the fact that the Web site was designed by a company in tax-free New Hampshire - well, I just hope the geeks office is close to a New Hampshire state liquor state, so our local solons could kill two birds with one stone.
One last thing: If I were a G-man, the first thing Id be doing this morning would be checking to see if anybody who pocketed some coupons early yesterday on the sneaky site had access through an ISP in Victoria BC.
Dont worry, though, feds, youll have another crack today. If he got any rebates, you can bet Whitey will have all four of them listed for sale on Craigslist by noon.
