The Senate on April 15, 2010, approved an $18 billion extension of eligibility for unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits in a vote of 59-38, but the amended measure, which was approved by the House on March 17, must return to the lower chamber for another vote before it can be signed into law.
The Senate passed an amendment (S.A. 3721) offered by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont) in the nature of a substitute to the House-passed Continuing Extension Act of 2010 (H.R.4851) that would extend unemployment benefits through June 2, 2010 (retroactive to April 5) and extend the COBRA premium subsidy through May 31, 2010, and provide transition relief for individuals who lost their jobs between March 31, 2010 and the date of the bills enactment. H.R.4851, as passed by the House, provides for extensions of eligibility for unemployment insurance and COBRA benefits through May 5 and April 30, respectively.
The Continuing Extension Act of 2010 would also extend the national flood insurance program through May 31, 2010, and delay a proposed cut in Medicare payments to physicians.
We have a responsibility to make sure out-of-work Americans can still access the vital safety-net programs they need to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table while Congress works to pass a longer-term solution and create the jobs that will get our economy moving again, said Baucas.

Great incentive that our govt has, to keep taking my money and paying bums.
Which three GOP Senators went along and need to be replaced?
Wait, wait... let me guess... without knowing, I'd say the Maine Hags + Brown. Did I win???
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The only thing more frightening to our government than millions on unemployment, is millions who’s unemployment just ran out. The latter group is much more likely to acquire and use pitch forks and torches. As Gerald Celente says, when people lose everything and have nothing to lose, they lose it.
One indicator that things may be looking up is when the congress halts unemployment extensions.
Meanwhile, the gorrila in the room is the fact that the FedGov has been, like a drug dealer or loan shark, giving huge interest free loans to states to meet their unemployment obligations, but that is coming to an end, and interest will be accrued soon.
That’s gonna leave a mark!
Lots and lots of shoes yet to drop.
It was originally supposed to expire on 12/31. They have extended it four times now. Gotta keep getting the newly unemployed comfortable with this being on the public dole gig, dontcha know.
Here lies the problem, these imbeciles still believe that the government “creates” private sector jobs through their legislation. Nothing could be further from the truth. The sad fact is there are many republicans who believe the same thing.
Excellent Points!
Collins R - ME

When interest rates climb and there is less discretionary money to “spread the wealth around(sic B.Obama, 2008)”, it will really hit the fan.
Nothing about unemployment benefits(we should just call it welfare incnetive not to work) helps to get jobs for these people.
The crack addict is a good analogy as the dependency just goes up over time, without any cure for the individual.
Because as long as most people are paid to continue to be unemployed ... they will remain unemployed!
So the democrats extending this over and over helps us by keeping the unemployment rate high, and gives us a nice issue to fire up the tea partiers in regards to wasteful spending :)

All the Dims are on my replace list. I asked in order to see if there were more GOP names to add to the list, or if it was the usual suspects.
The biggest item in the bill but scarcely mentioned: the scheduled Medicare reduction of 21% of payments made to doctors and hospitals has been rescinded. The scoring of Obamacare was based on the cuts being implemented. They were not, which means you can add another $200 billion to the cost of the bill.
When we heard this on the radio when we woke up this morning my wife sat up and her comment was unprintable. But a translation would include “Duh, as long as you keep paying they won’t be working”.
Look at what you buy and see where it is made. If the unemployed want a job they should move to the third world country. Washington’s bipartisan trade agreements have resulted in exporting jobs, factories and treasuries and we wonder why there are no jobs for Americans and we’re going broke.
Recovery awaits making more of what we consume or a third party challenge that hears the job sucking sound.
I know and we need to remove RINO’s from conservative states - Graham and McLame come to mind.
But we seem to lose focus on how many of these rats are representing conservative states.
I with the TEA Party and talk radio would hammer this home more.
Any conservative, big name or not, should win in those states.
