The Church stat of 45,000 is even better because it’s not a static number. There have been more than 45,000 priests in the church since the 1960’s when the “guitar priests” infiltrated the church to avoid the Draft and stay in the closet. But the 55 number stands. The tenured profs at Yale? They probably have, as they say “vacancies by death, few. By retirement never”.
