A Sacramento Superior Court judge today approved a final $22.5 million compromise settlement to an Oregon girl who was severely injured four years ago when her father accidentally ran her over with his big-rig truck.
Diana Yuleidy Loza-Jimenez, 14, had been awarded $24.3 by a jury last month in the damage phase of her civil lawsuit against Freeway Transport, Inc., the trucking firm that had retained her father.
. . .
Loza-Jimenez was injured Nov. 27, 2004, while traveling with her father and other family members on a long-haul trip from Oregon to Bakersfield and back. On the return trip, the family stopped to take a break, and her father started the truck moving again while she was under it.

NOW would be a good time for Tort-Reform!
Insanity.
Another learned “judge” who rode the short bus to school.
Um...........why was she under the truck?
Who said “the American Dream” is dead?
And how is the company liable?
They owned the truck....dontcha know.
Because Daddy doesn’t have the 22.5 million bucks to give to her for running her over. It’s just the way the “American Dream” works. You can’t have the new “American Dream” without stealing somebody else’s money. Ask any “lawyer”.
And why were there any family members in the rig? Stoooopid!
There was a thread on this back when the original judgement was handed down...
Wow.
I guess I was wrong about the Socialist Medicine that was crammed down our throats.
If it cost this much to fix her up, we really do need the government to control all aspects of medicine to bring the costs down.

Exactly. I would imagine that would be one of the company's oldest rules regarding insurance policies.

The attornies will get 1/3 of this. They’re going to give $600,000.00 to the Shriner’s Hospital, which actually treated the girl. Note that the Shriners do not charge for any treatment.
It’s worse than you imagine. The jury was never allowed to hear that her father was the one who drove over her.
The company is liable because they were stupid enough to hire a guy who would take his family on business and run over his daughter.
I told my daughter this story, and she asked if I wanted to run her over and split the 20 million.
LOL
