What is not generally known about the National Guard troops at Kent State, is that they had just completed a week or more duty at a coal mine site where a violent strike was going on and they were being shot at. Thus you had tired troops who had been shot at put into a new, potentially violent, situation.

Thanks! If I ever heard that, I had forgotten. Helps put things in perspective. In 1968 I was 16 - didn’t have much perspective at all then.
