I believe this whole drama is orchestrated from the White House using politically reliable members of the news media and some of the more blatant buffoons in Congress. Democrats are trying to push politics back to times when racism was a driving force.
Of course, this gives them a means of control.

This has been going on since Vladimir Lenin sent Julious Hammer and his son Armond to America in 1907 to start the Communist Workers Party, soon changed to Communist Party USA. Rather than give a brief summary of their history I will just say that the entire civil rights movement was initiated and financed by the Communists. So was/is the Feminist movements, the gay rights movements, etc. All are intended to divide America and confuse our values.
