Federal agents, including several from the U.S. Department of Defense, raided a Kingston office building today that houses two companies involved in a federal dredging project.
More than 15 agents removed more than 20 boxes from the office building on Third Avenue that is the headquarters for Hazleton Creek Properties LLC and Fort Mifflin Reclamation Associates Inc. Several of the boxes loaded by agents into a rental van were clearly marked Fort Mifflin.
In 2006, Fort Mifflin was awarded a $21 million contract through the U.S. Army Engineer District in Philadelphia to transport materials dredged from a portion of the Delaware River, according to federal documents. Hazleton Creek Properties is engaged in the Hazleton Reclamation Site, a 277-acre mine reclamation site that is to be filled with dredging materials and become the site of an amphitheater.
William F. Rinaldi is president of Fort Mifflin, according to state Corporation Bureau records. Marvin L. Slomowitz is secretary of Fort Mifflin and president and treasurer of Hazleton Creek Properties. Both companies list their address at 580 Third Ave., which is also headquarters of Mark Realty, which is owned by Slomowitz.
Neither man could immediately be reached for comment. An attorney for Mark Realty, Andrew Bigda, did not immediately respond to a phone message.
Agents who spent more than two hours at the Third Avenue office building referred questions to a U.S. Department of Justice attorney, who did not return numerous phone messages.
Federal agents today also paid a visit today to Barry Bowen, a former Scranton school director candidate who as of two years ago was overseeing construction for Hazleton Creek Properties. Bowen confirmed federal agents paid him a visit, but declined to comment on where they visited him and whether they took any of his files. He referred all questions to his lawyer, attorney Paul Walker.
I have to wonder why the sudden interest by the Feds in NEPA corruption. Are they trying to destablize the local governments in order to gain Federal control?

So what is the matter with the project, or the rumored matter? Bribery? Substandard work? Scams?
Don’t know yet. We’ll probably find out in the coming weeks.
looks like Marvin Slomovitz is in trouble
Didn’t a certain former Republican, now Democrat Senator play a role in the awarding of this contract???
I think this was Arlen’s “baby”.
