But....but....but.....test after (government-sanctioned and developed) test has shown that these compact cars are safer than 95.4% of every other vehicle on the road!
Wait....wait... "I'm a good enough driver so that I don't NEED to worry about getting turned into a red smear on the road."
Oop...wait.... "Dammit! It's my life and my prerogative, and I can risk it by driving whatever car I want to, Dammit!"
Does that about cover all of the FReeper arguments for the "smart car" thread? :-)
FWIW, I think that in a big car, the car takes the beating and in a small car, you take the beating. It's simple physics, really. But logic and reason have no place for "what car to drive" threads. :-) :-)
While I was sitting at a red light, My 89 Suburban was rear ended by a Saturn. The result was $298.00 in damage to the Suburban’s rear bumper and over $3,000.00 in damage to the Saturn’s front end.
I didn’t bother repairing the Suburban’s eear bumper, after all it was merely slightly bent.
You are right about little logic or reason on what car people decide to drive and little truth about gas mileage. That huge ‘67 Chevy Caprice was a dream to drive. It had a 327, turbo-hydramatic, 4 dr hardtop, gold body and black vinyl top. I put 234,000 miles on it before gasoline got hard to find and expensive. Bought a used 72 Honda, 2 dr sport model with 2 cyl air-cooled engine that got 40 mpg. I’m keeping my Geo Metros that get 50 mpg and one that gets 60 mpg for when gas hits $7 gal, but not comfortable to drive. I drive my 2000 Toyota Echo 4 dr for a little comfort, but I’m still tired when I get somewhere. It is small, but I got a good deal on it, gets 38 mpg unless using a/c, and now has 117,000 miles and no trouble. I don’t ever plan on buying a gov’t car. My brother had a Yugo when commuting, but he didn’t think it was funny when I told him he could double its value just by filling it with gas.
No, but it DOES cover the incompetent directives of a government who prohibited smaller cars and convertibles for a while. Remember the 80s?
I'd rather live in a world where intelligent people (and stupid ones) can make their own choices, not even stupider bureaucrats who do it for "our own good."
