In Statement of NOW President Terry O'Neill
April 9, 2010
With Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) reportedly retiring, women who felt betrayed by his ill-conceived Stupak-Pitts anti-abortion provision are rejoicing. The National Organization for Women Political Action Committee endorsed Charlevoix County Commissioner Connie Saltonstall last month to challenge Stupak for Michigan's 1st District. Saltonstall entered the race with less than six months to campaign; but now, with renewed energy and momentum, Saltonstall is no longer the new kid on the block but the best and brightest choice for Michigan's 1st District.
Just five months ago, Stupak and his Republican counterpart, Joe Pitts (R-Pa.), led the charge to insert a sweeping anti-abortion provision into the health reform bill, callously figuring they could hijack the process to severely restrict women's access to abortion care. Stupak's attempt to put his own religious ideology ahead of women's health care needs made him unfit to serve in Congress. NOW/PAC is delighted Saltonstall emerged when she did, giving the people of Michigan's 1st District and women across the country a new voice for equality and justice.
Saltonstall is a strong champion of women's issues. She supports reproductive justice, affirmative action, pay equity, constitutional equality and equal marriage rights. She is also in favor of repealing the Hyde Amendment, which bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortions; significantly increasing funding for programs under the Violence Against Women Act; rescinding the Defense of Marriage Act; expanding the Family and Medical Leave Act to add paid leave; and reversing the damage done to Title IX during the Bush regime.
We call on the Democratic Party leadership to immediately and enthusiastically support Connie Saltonstall. NOW/PAC will be mobilizing to help Saltonstall's campaign, and we look forward to the day she becomes the Congresswoman from Michigan's 1st District.
Now its called “reproductive justice”?
Well, we know “Connie” will represent the fetus carrier, but who represents the fetus?
No kidding!!! Looks like that is who will run in Stupaks place. Good to know who will be running, or at least trying to run.
Since Stupak took the anti abortion stance that he did because he’s from a conservative district I don’t see how a Dem candidate taking an openly pro abortion stance there will be elected.
I wonder why NOW is so pro abortion when they are mainly a bunch of lesbians?
They live in their own little world. They truly haven’t a clue. Planned Parenthood set up shop here about 7 years ago. They lasted about 4 or 5 years, it might not have even been that long. They left about 2 years ago. People here are very much pro-life. Lots of Catholics, Apostolic Lutheran’s and Pentecostals.
Against fertility and true womanhood, I suppose. I betcha their skin crawls when they think of Sarah. :) Sad, really, because the Biblical view is the most satisfying and joyful. The other - discontent *itching.
Saltonstall-That is an old New England name-I think one onf the last Republican senators from MA (not counting Brooke) was a Saltonstall. The name itself denotes trust funders,
left wing liberalism, and so forth.
Does anyone know her background?
I think they are out for the money, most don’t give a rip about woman or they are seriously misguided.
Odd that leftists are so vehemently pro abortion. After all, the overwhelming majority of the people they kill are future democrat voters.
There will be no one representing Connie when she one day enters the ultimate court of Justice.
Never thought of it that way. Nothing the left ever does makes a lot of sense.
It's not about women's rights.
It's not about reproductive freedom.
It's not about rape, incest or health of the mother.
It's about one thing: Money!
An abortion provider receives about $5,000 - 6,000 per job. A significant contribution from that is given to "Women's Groups" like NOW, NARAL, etc.
And a significant contribution from that is given to Democrat candidates.
Follow the money.
She’s a far-lefty loon, here, in Charlevoix. But, I guess you can see that by her bio.
She ran against a friend of mine for the County Commissioner.
I’d love to see her leave town, but not to take “Stuck on Stupak’s” seat.
Let' see. The left opposed Stupak because he was pro-life and the right opposed him because he was for the health bill. Nobody is interested in the fetus.
How callous of them to think they should stop women from murdering babies that result from having free-range sex, like the animal kingdom.
The Saltonstalls are an old-line Boston Brahmin family. A lot of those people have become liberals. I found her bio after some searching around:

Sure enough, her family originally comes from Boston, and she went back there for part of her education. She grew up in Ithaca, suggesting that maybe one of her parents was a professor at Cornell, although that’s not made clear. I would guess that her parents are new left types from the 60s.
Some of those families split into hundreds of cousins, mostly living on trust funds, and I’d guess that’s what happened. Now she’s going into politics.
My Aunt knew some of the Saltonstalls in Boston back in the old days, but I don’t think I ever met any of them. Senator Saltonstall was typical of the breed.
I still can do the accent when I try. In fact, so can my children: “Oh, I say! Anyone for tennis? What, what?”
No kidding!!!! They eat their young, just like animals. The ones they don’t destroy before they are born, they corrupt and destroy with their lack of any morals. Let’s have sex with anything or anyone at anytime, mentality. Wouldn’t at all surprise me if NOW is linked to NAMBLA.
She won’t get elected. I was hoping this was who they would run with.
