Generators

Saturday 10th April 2010

Dear Family and Friends,
When you ask people how they've survived this dreadful decade in Zimbabwe, almost everyone mentions the name Gideon Gono (Governor of the Reserve Bank.) People say they would have been able to salvage something if it hadn't been for Gono's incessant printing of money - and bragging about it; for his inability and unwillingness to control government spending; for his looting of foreign currency from private bank accounts, and for his removal of zeroes from the currency: 3 were taken off in 2006 and 10 in 2008. It's hard to understand how any of us survived really and inevitable that we will feel the repercussions for a very long time to come.

For the first time in most people's lives we do not have savings to fall back on in case of accidents, illness or unemployment. Savings accounts we had in banks, post offices and investment centres have disappeared as each removal of zeroes literally stole our money away in front of our very eyes. You have to look at your bank balance, remove thirteen digits and then understand the state we are in here. Life insurance policies and pension funds have been similarly looted.

Anyone who held their assets in cash and savings and not in immovable property, has lost everything. Anyone who held their assets in land, livestock, crops or anything to do with farms and agriculture, has lost everything.

Trust funds established for disabled, sick and disadvantaged people have evaporated in the last decade. One friend told me how her parents had established a trust fund for their mentally handicapped son and built it up every month throughout their lives. When her parents died their assets were sold and also put into the Trust leaving enough money in the fund to support the disadvantaged man for the rest of his life. Thanks to the gross economic mismanagement of Zimbabwe, there is nothing left in the Trust Fund, in fact it ran dry four years ago and the handicapped man now lives entirely on charity in a dilapidated state institution.

Pensioners are in an equally perilous position, life savings lost in hyperinflation, assets sold and cash lost in repeated currency devaluations and no way to replace anything as their age forces them into a retirement of virtual penury.

Facing a future in such perilous conditions it brings little comfort to follow the ongoing seizure and auctioning of Reserve Bank assets. The Reserve Bank ordered and took possession of 60 tractors from Farmtec which they gave out to farmers in an attempt to persuade them to grow food on the farms seized by Zanu PF. Well, the food never got grown and the tractors never got paid for and now Farmtec want their money back - US 1,2 million dollars in fact! We follow the saga with interest as Reserve Bank assets get taken by Sherrifs and put up for auction. So far we've heard that some tractors have been repossessed along with chains, hoes, wheelbarrows, furniture, fridges and hundreds of generators. Hearing about the generators being auctioned brings back memories of Mr Mugabe dishing them out at every election rally in 2008 saying that every town would be electrified thanks to this Reserve Bank programme. Writing this letter by hand during another 16 hour power cut all I can say is : I don't think so!

Now we wait, holding our breath, to see if enough money will be raised through the sale of these movable assets to pay the Farmtec debt or if some of the lavish properties we've heard so much about will be next. Maybe it is true that what goes around comes around after all, albeit very slowly.

Until next time, thanks for reading, love Cathy

I find it passing strange that this thread has been highjacked with posts about whether or not Buckle is genuine or is she stupid, the fact that we have a Mugabe wanna-be moving to destroy our country is totally ignored. Quite strange.

Find this particular response and an unfortunate 'strange' - as in a perverse ignorance of sorts. You will notice often, on threads, that one poster can generate, for whatever reason; a 'pile on' of negative responses; a bully response, if you will.

Just ignore them; and know that many posters are reading; and appreciating - and hopefully grasping the significance - of what is possibility thinking for a radical Marxist/communist/totalitarian et al. Power/Control over another is paramount, not to mention, usurping the wealth of others to enrich oneself. . .in the name of 'compassion' and of course, 'change one can believe in'.

Am sure none of these people who deride Cathy Buckle or any other of Zim 'white population' for not having the 'smarts' to leave; have a location in mind, should 'we/they' need/want to do same here; should it ever be necessary. And given the that there are signs already - large cracks in our sidewalks - that send message that leaving might be a better, safer option; am sure they have at least considered this; and have not only a location in mind; but a 'plan'; should they need ever, to implement it - 'just in case'.

By their critical responses here at least; we can fairly assume as much.

(All to say; keep up the posts and don't let the turkeys get you down.!/lol) and Thank 'You'/ ;^)

Thanks, cricket. They aren’t getting me down...it’s just kind of puzzling that they invest so much vitriol.

Yes, more puzzling, given the very critical issues addressed here at FR - and in our political news daily; that deserve vitriol!

Hate to tellya man, but that's all your accomplishing.

That's all "his accomplishing"?

Been reading these for a long time, intend to continue, and I thank greyfoxx39 for posting them. One little snapshot might not mean much, rather like a picture of a baseball mid-air halfway between pitcher and batter, but over time with many such pictures you get to see some of the game.

If you don't like the game, or it bores you, suggest you tune out.

Is this where America is headed?

In a great big hurry.

America -- a great idea, didn't last.

Other than comic relief, why do you post Cathy Bucklehead's weepy loser letters?

In other words: "I am the Great and Might REGULATOR. I DO NOT APPROVE This Message; Thou Shalt Cease and Desist."

Everywhere you turn, even on FR, there's a tyrant who wants to regulate rule over everyone else.

Hey buddy, it's a free country... no wait, it isn't any more. I see, you just want to be the guy on top.

Regulator, you sure picked an appropriate screen name.

I wasn’t “piling on” or engaging in vitriol — it just seems odd to me that an obviously educated person seems so invested in Zimbabwe, a country that I (erroneously) assumed that she had no connection to. Since she was apparently born there, from what I read, I kind of understand why she stays, even though I don’t think it’s smart.

Like many of us, I worry that at some point traditional Americans may have to decide, “Do I go or do I stay?” but the real problem for us is that there is no place to go. The best thing we can do is pray hard and work hard to prevent the U.S. from going down the tubes.

Agreed, why does this pathetic woman insist upon staying in that shithole?

My point too. If the woman is so upset by what is happening there, why doesn't she leave? In her case at least she has Britain to resort to.

But the truth is, she's a vapid liberal who denied that this foreseeable nightmare was going to happen. Now she can't leave (if she's really there, which I think may not be the case anyway, but lets assume..) because that would be to admit that Africans and their tribal "society" are really as awful as Evil White People said they would be....and we can't admit reality if we are loony lib, now can we?

In my case, I'm still in the country my Regulator ancestors started....got nowhere to go. Don't plan on letting a bunch of alien foreigners take over and turn me into a slave, either.

Maybe Cathy the Professional Blubberer could think about something like that. But that would mean organized resistance and mmmm, guns and bloodshed, just like Mugabe...and she ain't got the guts.
