Early on maybe he thought public opinion would turn a bit and provide cover , but how could he have the last couple weeks or so ?.
Could be he felt he had to go through the motions given the facade he helped to create the first time through the House. Maybe he felt he would be seen as callow if he didnt kick up some dirt the second time through too . He also probably thought if Coakely had won he might be able to vote no after conference .
I guess he was just caught in his own petard. How thoroughly humiliating for him, though. Clumsy knucklehead.
Ah, but there is one thing such craven people cannot stand -- RIDICULE! We are too polite and deferential to people who are unworthy of either. Traitors like Stupak should be met with ridicule and scorn in every public place, and should not be welcomed in polite society. His face should be his shame, and his life a living hell.
I’m not sure that Stupak actually would expect to lose. He may have other reasons for bailing out, possibly financial. Perople in MI probably don’t even know what he did, considering the news blackout in such liberal states.
No, the ridicule is on the poeple of MI for ever discovering him. Those folks need more help than we can give them, I’m afraid. Isn’t the worst unemployment rate there, or is it CA?
Let’s wait and see what cushy job Stupak lands. Surely, Obama and Emanuel promised him something, knowing full well that his political career would be over.
Don’t you think he’ll get an adminstrative appointment somewhere?
Legally? No. The Constitution is any president's legal authority to even be president. To write such an order is tantamount to declaring that his legal authority is now "might makes right".
Will the current pResident try such an ill-advised maneuver? Possibly, as he isn't at all well-schooled in American governance. Would he be successful if he were to attempt it? Not without one heck of a fight...

I put absolutely nothing past this cabal.
Thank you for the information.
