Two Russian Tu-95MS Bear strategic bombers have carried out a routine patrol flight over the Pacific Ocean, the Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"Two Tu-95MS strategic bombers took off from Ukrainka Airbase on April 8 and carried out patrols over neutral waters in the Pacific Ocean and near the Aleutian Islands," Lt. Col. Vladimir Drik said.
During the 15-hour mission, the crews practiced instrumental guidance flights and in-flight refueling.
All flights by Russian aircraft are performed in strict compliance with international law on the use of airspace over neutral waters, without intruding in the airspace of other states.
However, the Russian bombers were shadowed by Canadian F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets during the patrols.
Russia resumed strategic bomber patrol flights over the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans in August 2007, following an order from then-President Vladimir Putin.
Ukrainka Airbase is one of the largest strategic air force bases in Russia's Far East.

The amazing thing about is bomber that in 1961 that it carried and dropped a 50 plus megaton bomb and the plane and its crew survived. The bomb, weighing 27 tons, was so large that the Tu-95V had to have its bomb bay doors and fuselage fuel tanks removed.
Didn’t they make this into a movie in Russia .

Thank you for getting the link. I am looking forward to reading it(with great interest).
my dad used to monitor stuff like that from RB-47’s in a Strat Recon wing of SAC .
Few knew ....they knew
I admired the RB-47 crews and those who flew the U-2 over Russia very much.
their motto was “ We See All”
and they did !
I was told you could hear it all the way to the coast of the U.S.
Not the bomb, but the plane.
Is Canada still covering Alaskan air space?
NAh, we had a small problem with the entire F15 fleet being grounded, so like a good neighbor Canada ‘loaned us a few CF/A 18s to cover the patch while we got the F15 thing sorted out.
Everything is good now.
Oh, and we have F-22s on duty now as well.
Elmendorf AFB = “Top Cover for America”
I knew about the F-15 grounding. I wonder how many of the Canada bashers on FR know about this? Do you think Mexico would cover your 6?
Que?
Atornille que - queremos solamente el dinero de los vecinos!
Mexico is what Mexico is.
Several times a day there is a group of fighters from the F15’s in years past to the F22’s now passing over where I work, and every night almost like clockwork is another group of about 3 C130’s or recently the C17’s flying a pattern directly over my house as they come in low and prepare to land at Elmendorf.
I can handle everything but the C-17s - shakes the crap out of the house.... We are right on the run in heading for EAFB and MErril field.
Over the lasat couple of years we have had A/C land in the park acros the street.
I checked, our insurance covers aircraft parts (or the whole thing) hitting the homestead....
