Still, to be a teenager is to do stupid things.

A stupid thing is not mercilessly harassing a person to suicide. Than by your thinking, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did stupid things when they attacked Columbine.

This author is obviously clueless because the thugs are being charged for assault, statutory rape, and stalking, which is illegal. Sounds like an enabler to me.

Absolutely not! Instead, teach your children how to get medievel on those bullies’ buttocks. If it is a group of them just focus on the leader and take him or her down. Once you do that the problem disappears for the most part.

When the schools don’t let students defend themselves, then yes. They should be criminalized.

Teach your children to be like an Irish Wolfhound - gentle with human beings (non-bullies) and vicious toward the wolves (bullies).

When the schools don’t let students defend themselves, then my child will be taken out of that school............

Tha Zantops of Dartmouth would probabably think their murders were more than stupid teenage pranks.

These kids should be punished to the full extent of the law.

I’m not a fan of anti bullying legislation but something has to be done.

Bullies are part of growing up but this goes well beyond anything I ever saw when I was in school. Someone would have stepped in and tried to help the girl.

Frankly, I don’t like calling the South Hadley 6, bullies. It went way beyond it. They are more like terrorists.

My daughter was bullied in a private school. Growing up will include getting tested by bullies. Living as an adult, I run up against bullies all the time. The key is to teach your child to defend themselves and survive. We are raising a country of wusses. When she came home telling me that two boys kept jumping on her back and pushing her to the ground - always when an adult was not around to catch them - I put her into judo lessons. It only took once for each of these bullies to be thrown to the ground, with their breath knocked out of them for them to stop. She stood on the yellow line as punishment (for defending herself) for two weeks, but I told her she had to be prepared to do so again and again and again. She is 25 yrs old today and doesn’t take cr@p from anyone without a fight.

Probably not, but we should stop teaching our kids to run and hide from them. And that crap carries over to adult life...”just give the robber what he wants and don’t make him angry”.

BS. Make scum afraid to be scums and they’ll stop eventually.

Teach kids to fight back and without mercy, then punish the bullies, not the victims for it. Bullies only get their kicks because people run or back down from them. Many bullies get off scott free and their victims get punished for finally pushing back.

That is incredibly naive. Bullies usually travel in a cliche, and attack loners. Your advice is like telling an injured Zebra, “just fight back against that pack of Jackals.”

Actually it is not naive. That’s a standard tactic within military and law enforcement circles.

Reading through the linked article, if any here take the time, it shows that there is clearly a push to criminalize what I believe is typical for growing children and adolescents. How much control do we want to hand over to the schools and government so we do not have to deal with raising our own children - teaching them to cope in what truly is a heartless, careless world?

So send your kid to school with an M16 and tell him to blow the perp away. School is not the military, and it is not law enforcement. It is more like day prison.

Amen again Brother! I was getting picked on pretty good in the fifth grade. I told my pap I did not want to go to school and why. He said it was pretty simple. I could either whip their collective asses or whip him. The choice was mine. Three got their asses stomped and they call me Mr. till this day. Never... never had another problem.

I’ve got girls and boys and either gender will get after a body hot enough to make their teeth sweat. You have to take care and protect you and yours first.

I have not heard an explanation... most likely there is a good one though... where were the girls parents when all this was happening. And for that matter... her sister?? They did not know what she was going through?
