Carl Paladino, a Republican candidate for Governor, is a favorite of the Tea Party movement. Paladino gave a speech yesterday at the Palace Theater in Syracuse, and, once again, he got a racous reception.
His campaign slogan is "Mad As Hell." When he announced the start of his campaign recently in his hometown of Buffalo, Paladino says he will focus on spending and chronic deficits in the state budget.
Paladino is a lawyer and highly-successful real estate developer, many of his projects in blighted areas of Buffalo.
Paladino stressed he is no career politican.
Paladino vowed to spend $10 million of his own money to get elected. His two rivals for the GOP nomination are former Congressman Rick Lazio and Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy.
I heard the other day on a Buffalo station that Paladino would also like to bring an end to welfare. I wish him luck with that one.

He said Cuomo wants to use the governor's seat as a way station to run for president.On Talk 1300-AM in Albany, he said Cuomo came into office in 2008 on Eliot Sptizer's coattails and has a sense of entitlement.
"He's got this entitled feeling about him that he has some entitlement because his father was a governor," Paladino said.
"I watch his arrogance. I watch him walk up to a door with staff all around him and stop and wait for them to open the door for him. And I see little things like that, and I say, 'Something's wrong with that guy.'"

Yes, he does. He's also bringing up Cuomo's contribution to the housing disaster in his HUD days. If Carl hadn't mentioned it, no one else would have -- least of all the press.
I like this guys as well. Living in Rochester, I’ve had some opportunity to hear him speak. It’s no politico that for sure..

Hundreds of stories of abuse, however, still haunted HUD, as revealed by audits that were conducted by the agency’s inspector general. For example:
— The Puerto Rico Public Housing Agency (PHA) used $17 million in operating funds from HUD for ineligible disaster relief expenses. The audit report was published in March 2000.
— An audit conducted in 1999 on the Homebuyers Incentive Program in Troy, N.Y., revealed that the city did not disclose all relevant facts to HUD while awarding the brother of the deputy mayor a $27,500 grant. A $10,000 grant was awarded to the mayor’s secretary without HUD permission.
— An audit of the period from July 1997 through December 1999 called into question over $1 million spent by the Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach (HACMB), and over $2 million in a failed project to provide housing and social services.

One failed HUD program in particular stands out as a large blotch on Cuomo’s legacy in Washington. The 203(k) loan program, which was created to help revamp broken-down buildings and turn them into “affordable housing,” became the victim of fraudulent “flipping” schemes, according to a New York Times story in 2006. The turnaround renovation and resale schemes led to hundreds of foreclosures.”

It doesn’t look like Andrew Cuomo did such a great job with HUD. Can we expect him to turn around New York State’s fiscal mess?
I heard Mark Levin talk about Cuomo’s problems with HUD, but how come we don’t hear it from the tv media? rhetorical question, of course.
