They fight God. May He teach them the stupidity of that decision.

Unfortunately if God judges them, then he will also judge us. God judges the nations that turn on Israel, and the last time I checked, the Nation includes all of the citizens of that Nation. Right now America has voted in an enemy of Israel to be their leader. When the hammer falls, it is going to land on everyone.

I agree. I have always believed that this nation's founding was done in a Covenant with the Holy One of Israel. That's how my pilgrim ancestors viewed Plymouth Rock, and thats how the Founders viewed the formation of the nation. That belief frankly terrifies me, because I believe that God begins judgment in His own house.

I've lately begun to wonder if Bush, for all of his faults, was our Josiah, delaying the judgment for the length of his rule, but ultimately cutting short his legacy by defying God's commandment in the end.

Would that make Obama our Jeconiah, put into place by God to bring about our judgment?

I'm listening to the book of Jeremiah on .mp3 as I work. The parallels to Jeremiah's situation and our own is striking. Obviously, I'm not advocating Anglo-Israelism or replacement theology, but the Eternal One does not change, and neither do His judgments.

I also wonder about Egypts relationship with Judah. Pharaoh Neco was on Judah's side--up to a point--but when King Neb came down, Egypt became a reed of a staff, breaking and splintering into the one who tried to lean on it. For that sin, God handed Egypt over to the very enemies they sought to escape by abandoing Israel, and Egypt too was carried into exile.

I keep praying and hoping that God's judgment will be a surgical strike on Washington, but I know the rest of the country is long overdue for judgment as well. These days my prayers more turn to the promise given to Laodicea ("The Rule of the People"), "Those I love, I rebuke and chasten." I pray that He pours out His rebuke on us, not His wrath.

I think He's doing that now, actually. When God judges a nation, He takes away the things they are most proud of. In our case, that would mean our wealth, our freedom, and our might. If--probably when--we refuse to listen and repent, He will turn up the ante. I'm kind of expecting an EMP attack, but it could be any number of things.

Shalom.
