One of the most impassioned speeches I have ever heard was from a Lieutenant Colonel who was redeploying from Iraq to his home station. I sat in awe as he explained that the US military is the only military in the world that swears an oath not to a person or country but an idea articulated in the document that is the US Constitution. They pledge their very lives to the defense of that idea.

Thank you. My son is going to Ft. Benning in a little over 2 weeks, I remind him that Presidents come and go as do our elected officials but the Constitution is the thing that remains constant.
