Should have looked before I asked. Thanks. I would be interested in seeing a longer time base though. I wonder how far back accurate statistics are available.

Hope that gusty solar wind doesn’t put the asteroid off course.

I also heard a person from the USGS on the news that earthquakes over 7.0 happen every month...

And islands can capsize if one side becomes overly populated.

Wouldn’t that be something if after Obama “hilarioulsly***” joked about no asteroids falling the day after healthcare, we get an ALGORE-EFFECT asteroid/meteor storm....

***by cued, laughing planted audience standards...

"Fly bys of near-Earth objects within the moon’s orbit occur every few weeks,” said Don Yeomans of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., in a statement."

If this is as common as he claims, then when was the last time we had a significant impact of an asteroid on the moon?

It would seem as if 71 foot asteroids traveling between the earth and moon would occasionally hit one or the other.

Asteroids below a certain size would break up in the atmosphere.

I'm glad you brought that subject up Beowulf9, I read the biblical punishments that fall upon the AC and the False Profit!

They get hammered by guess what? 'a burdonsome stone crashes into two parts. One lands in the Med another lands on these muslims apostate's. How's that for handling islamoterrorism?

The numbers of quakes are not that much greater, but look at the graph farther down the USGS page!

The much more important number, total deaths! This year is remarkable for a 300% increase in quake mortality. Already, 2010 is only surpassed by 4,000 deaths occuring during the whole of 2004. With 2/3rds of this year yet to be counted, woe to those who are living outside of God's good grace's. Woe!

Woe, to the follower's of the false 'profit mohammed', his false messiah 'Barry' and their phony moon god; allah.

Estimated Deaths

2000 231 deaths

2001 21357 deaths

2002 1685 deaths

2003 33819 deaths

2004 228802 deaths

2005 82364 deaths

2006 6605 deaths

2007 712 deaths

2008 88011 deaths

2009 1787 deaths

2010 223140 deaths

A lot of the known near Earth asteroids appear to be burned-out comet nuclei with an albedo lower than anthracite coal. In other words, they are VERY hard to detect.

What if there are companion objects that we have not detected?

Thanks TaraP.
A newly discovered asteroid... even though it is passing within the orbit of the moon... poses no threat of crashing into our planet... The asteroid, called 2010 GA6, is a relatively small space rock about 71 feet wide...

I guess it’s a good thing it wasn’t a 71 MILE wide asteroid, that was going to hit us TOMORROW.

It’s comforting to know they can see these things and tell us about them so far in advance. lol

AFAIK, 1178, but some dispute that one.
