How could he not remember Wilbur Wood?

Unless of course he’s making this all up.

He throws like a girl.

I was never a White Sox fan. Didn't like them at in the least until one my favorite all-time players Ron Santo finished his last season there. But I can still name several players from that era without breaking a sweat. In addition to the great Wilbur Wood, there was Gary Peters, Pete Ward (and later Bill Melton) at third base, Carlton Fiske behind the plate (later still) and even the great journeyman of relievers, Hoyt Wilhelm, who made brief stops at both Chicago teams.

If you want to talk about the Cubs from a few years before, I can even tell you the backup players like Paul Popovich, who did a credible job at 2nd when Glenn Beckert was injured during that heartbreaking 1969 season, and pitcher-turned outfielder Willie Smith who helped hold down that third outfield position with Al Spangler, Jimmy Qualls and others. It was the only really weak spot on that great team.
