The 2004 Sumatra quake was roughly 19 miles deep and we know what that tsunami was like- though a 7.8 is nowhere near a 9.3

Wrong Ocean for Hawaii. Wave would be shielded by the bulk of Sumatra, and kind of messed up by the large Islands of the Indonesian archepeligo, as well as the Philipines.

You certainly could be correct but the map I'm looking at shows gaps through which a wave could pass on its way to Hawaii. Not unimpeded certainly,but....

However,I'm certainly no expert on such matters so nobody should wager even a nickel on my being correct!

I was in the San Francisco quake that was 7. I believe, that was indeed scary!

I hear you....I remember sitting through an aftershock and watching the park across the street literally liquefy, visually anyway....it was the most amazing thing I think I've ever seen.

This earthquake is over 600 miles from Krakatoa.

Yes, but in the context of the whole earth, it's not far. It's farther than that from Texarkana TX to El Paso, TX (814 road miles not too much less as the buzzard flies.) Or Brownsville, TX to Texline, TX (912 road miles, and again not much less direct).

Earthquake de jour.

Biblical. One of signs of the end times although as the Bible also predicted, there'll be naysayers that will say, "No way, everything's like it was from the beginning." Believe the Bible and the goodness and grace of the God of the Bible, not the naysayers.

If it causes another tsunami, that really will make it "breaking" news. ;') [ducks, runs, hides]

Just a bit over 3% as strong.

great link, thanks:

The earth is looking for Barry Soetero.

It's a little slow, but what can we expect when it sends the tectonic plates to do the job.

They are a wee bit ponderous, after all.

But be that as it is..."watch out, Barry, they're coming for you!"

I went to the link and I think I got the answer - the earth quake graph looks just like the inflation graph - it’s all The Bush’s fault (with their banking connections and all).

That’s the nice thing about Gore-Bull Warming .... it’s so flexible. It changes to fit the circumstances.
