Lee says accuracy more important than speed in probe into ship sinking

President Lee Myung-bak stressed Monday that his government will not rush through its investigation into the recent sinking of a Navy ship at the expense of "accuracy," especially given the international community's keen attention to the incident.

"Given the examples of disasters in various advanced nations, accuracy is more important than speed in determining the cause of this kind of big incident," Lee said in his biweekly radio address.

He asked the people to "wait patiently, although it will be painful, as a joint investigation team from the government, military, and civilian sector is already conducting an on-site investigation."

The president reiterated that the probe into the Cheonan's sinking is not just a domestic issue, but a matter related to South Korea's international credibility.

"We will have to find the cause in a way that satisfies not only our people but also the international community," Lee said.

The Lee administration is facing one of its most difficult situations in recent months, amid growing speculation over the sinking of the 1,200-ton patrol ship on March 26. An unexplained explosion broke the ship in two as it plied waters near the tense Yellow Sea border with North Korea on a routine patrol mission, according to the Navy

Hmmm....I smell an approaching coverup.

I think the North Koreans sank that ship with a torpedo fired from a submarine, with the Chinese egging them on.

Obama is weak, and the Chinese know it.

Remember, any mistake can turn the Korean Peninsula into a radioactive wasteland.

Yes. I know that. I am a Navy veteran, a former crypto-linguist who used to work an intelligence desk for the U.S.Navy.

But I am telling everyone that the only way that South Korean vessel could have been halved like that without any North Korean war vessels apparent on the surface, is by a torpedo from a submarine.

Come on, Lee is saving face! It is all he can do for himself, as the incompetent Obama is doing NOTHING!

There is a mutual protection treaty between the U.S. and South Korea - an attack against one is an attack against both. This has Chinese fingerprints all over it.

I predict, before the end of the summer, mainland China will move militarily against Taiwan. That is, after North Korea launches a coordinated attack against the South.

Why?

Because it is becoming obvious that Obama is incompetent and incapable of responding as a world power should respond, so their window of opportunity is this year. Next year, the hawks may be back.

I think that Lee is be carfuful and trying not to start a war in which it will leave his nation a shambles in a matter of minutes with hundreds of thousands of people dead.

With Obama as President of the U.S.A., I am afraid that is going to happen anyway, a forgone conclusion.

I suspect the Republic of China sees an opening, and will reach for the opportunity to conquer its neighbors.

“Look before you leap.”

The U.S.A. won’t even move, much less leap. That is the problem for South Korea. Uncle Sam is asleep.

China does not like the idea of South Korea absorbing North Korea because of the massive immigration of North Koreans in their nation and there will be a foothold by the US to the Yalu river. But in these matters concerning this sinking, we must follow the scientific method because if the South Koreans are not delibrate and measured in this investigation,it could wipe out the Korean Peninsula.

Understood. I am afraid for you because of this weak, stupid man we have as President.

He is always attacking the wrong people!

Yes the President is an idiot, but President Lee is not. He understands the gravity of the situation he is in. He is doing it his way.

Too bad President Lee isn’t our President. He has more intelligence and ability than Obama.

I hope I am wrong. I pray that I am wrong about the Chinese.

Much te be said on your post.
Yes, the chi-coms want Foremosa back and will fight for it but I do not think they will have to what with obammy in office as the marxist pos will sit back and do nothing.
The mutual protection agreement will be abrogated by obammy the moment the North attacks,
Not sure yet whether it was a torpedo or an accident from within.
Should be real easy to determine this though. Thing is to watch for photos and determine if the explosion came from outside or inside.
Sounds a lot like that little incident in Havana Harbour that started the Spanish American war though.

I think he just wants to kick this can down the road abit so tempers can cool off. The interesting thing will be what they do if the study shows that it was, in fact, a torpedo.
