Families certainly have been coming up in droves for the past several years. Entire extended families have moved here, many don’t bother to learn English and don’t show loyalty to this country in the way most that crossed years ago did. I remember the time when what you are saying was true- not anymore- at least on most of the border. Remember the huge protests a few years ago in favor of illegals getting amnesty? Few of those people showed any loyalty to the U.S. while carrying the Mexican flag. Many of the illegals now do not want to become part of the U.S. in any way- they want this part of the country to become part of Mexico.
Another issue not everyone is aware of is that many Mexican women, that have NEVER lived here and never intend to live here cross the border to have their babies so the baby will be citizens and qualify for any and all benefits in the U.S. including education. Many hospitals on the border have had to close because they were overwhelmed by all the Mexican citizens wanting to have their baby in the U.S. but no one was paying the medical bills.
All along the border students from Mexico cross to attend school in the U.S. and since the children are citizens- it is hard to legally keep them out of U.S. schools. It would make a huge difference if babies born here were NOT automatically citizens.
No one should be granted permenant status who is not going to assimilate into American way of life.
