I believe that M-14s have been issued to the "designated marksman" as well as SOCOM units in the army. The Marines and Navy have been using them as well.

Back in 1983-85, when I was an Armored Cavalry Squadron S-2, each of our Cav platoon’s had an M-14 for the soldier who was trained as a sniper.
