If anyone is not aware, Kock Industries is the largest privately owned company in this country and maybe the world. They are primarily an energy company, but they also own Georgia-Pacific.
If they are the enemy of Greenpeace then they are my friend.
I can't believe the "ho hum" reaction to this! Has everyone just rolled over and accepted the so-called settled science? Where is the outrage? Are these extra-Constitutional federal agencies just going to keep issuing assaults upon our Freedom and Liberty day after day?
States have passed states’ right resolutions and are filing lawsuits to stop the EPA. I believe that people are leaving it to that and hoping for the best. I have noticed one article so far saying people should not trust politicians to this extent. Whether federal or state, they are all parts of the same party machinery.
When Bill Clinton was pushing the BTU tax, Charles ordered all the employees to set aside everyday business and concentrate on a publicity campaign against the tax.
Everyone, and i mean everyone at Koch took part in calling customers, writing letters, making personal visits and generally raising hell.
It worked.
The last key Democrat vote for the BTU tax was David Boren on Oklahoma. When he voted no, the tax was derailed.
When Koch took over, they put GP on a diet. The Pink Palace (GP’s building in Atlanta) is almost deserted, according to my contacts.
I’ve been there...
An old Koch buddy said when Koch bought the paper company, each mill was shut down and everyone paid off and laid off. If the mill employed 1,000 people, an ad would appear a month later offering employment for 750 positions.
The paper industry is still very sickly. Dying newspapers, dying magazines, plastic grocery bags vs paper, etc. have killed demand. And all the mills are decades behind on capital upgrades - operating with baling wire/chewing gum maintenance programs.
Local leftist nut writes a guest column in the paper often blaming Koch industries for denying global warming. He also bashes Walter Williams as a paid Koch stooge, apparently because Koch has contributed to William’s university.
You are flat wrong. Having spent 35 years in the tissue side of the paper industry I can tell you GP, KC and SCA are the world leaders. Between the three that own the majority of the World Class Paper Machines and continue to out pace the world. They make money even over the last few years.
After the merger they kept saying to two companies were very much alike and I kept saying, Yeah, they both operate on the same planet.
Worked for GP via a merger and hated every minute of it. When they sold us it was the best day of my life.
I should clarify. Most of the mills in the South - Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia - are behind and are antiquated. I cannot recall a new paper machine being constructed in the South since the 1990 Ashdown, Arkansas project.
Louisiana lost three kraft mills in the last couple of years. I don’t disagree that tissue mills are managing to do ok - demand for that product is stable.
But newsprint and linerboard are not doing well.
Her conclusions:"AGW" is neither "good" science nor is the issue of AGW "settled" science.
Not only was she the top scorer above more than 250 other students, the other competitors were in the sixth through eighth grades -- and she is only a fifth-grader.
Altough she took First Place in her region, she was not allowed to go to State Science Fair -- because fifth graders are ineligible to compete at the State level... :-(

Nonetheless, the good news is that the real scientists (and the USAF officers) who judged her work have not "drunk the AGW Kool-Aid"!
Full disclosure: she's my granddaughter... '-)
further south.
A great big mill, once owned by IP.
Barton, Alabama, SCA has built two World Class Twin Wire Paper Machines with in the last 10 years and more to come.
What companies are doing is pulling inefficient machines off line. GP is a good example of that.
Thanks for that info on the State activity, and for your article BTW!
And kudos to you and your son/daughter for raising a child that thinks like that in this day and age!
You can ask your local paper if they want to republish this article, either online or in print.
