A central Indiana district isn't calling off a planned high school graduation prayer unless a federal judge orders it. GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A central Indiana district isn't calling off a planned high school graduation prayer unless a federal judge orders it. Greenwood School Board president Joe Farley says the district wants the judge to decide the merits of a lawsuit filed by the school's top-ranked senior. Greenwood High School student Eric Workman is asking a federal judge to stop a student-led prayer that the senior class voted to approve. The lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana on the 18-year-old's behalf claims that the prayer and class vote unconstitutionally subject students to religious practice. The school district has until April 16 to respond to the lawsuit, and a court hearing is scheduled for April 30. The district's attorneys didn't immediately return telephone messages seeking comment Friday.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself) The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Sounds like another liberal in the making. Doesn't like what he was outvoted on so he's suing everyone to force them to comply with what HE wants. There's a position in the obama administration for this kid.

HE can have his own prayer free graduation ceremony set up by his own parents.
Why should he have it his way and make everyone else submit to his wishes?

I agree entirely. But I also think telling these people "Screw this; we'll have our own private ceremony where we can have a prayer" also sends a very powerful message.NO. It doesn't send a powerful message, other than that they capitulated and others can now be encouraged to do the same thing.

I’m getting sick of individuals holding the rest of the country hostage to their selfish demands by invoking the Constitution.
They claim that they have a right to this, that, or the other thing, but it seems to escape them that others have rights too. When they demand their rights and seek to impose them on others, all the others lose their rights.
Everyone cannot have everything only their way. It’s simply not possible. In a country of 300,000,000 people there are going to be 300,000,000 opinions of what should be going on.
The Constitution was put into effect to try to restrict government and give individuals as much freedom as possible, not as a hammer with which to bludgeon others into submission to your will.

Oh I agree with you Cali. Glad to see the school making a stand and hope that even if a judge rules for the punk, that the students will proceed anyway.

I suppose the federal judge will step in and curtail the dangerous prayer. I think massive civil disobedience is the next step. Imagine high school graduating seniors getting arrested en masse all over the country for praying to God.

Thank you for pinging this. It would be a fabulous thing to see the graduating students exercising their right to pray and not bend. It's all about eliminating Christ isn't it? That's been tried for over 2000 years now...to no avail!

Tough luck for them. They’re never going to be able to legislate Christ out of existence.
Matter of fact, some day every knee shall bow, much to their chagrin.
