Not to disagree with the general statement, but a few years back ('04-'05) in a lumber order, I received about a dozen sheets of very high quality Okume plywood in my order.

Okume comes with a Lloyds stamp that identifies the grade and country of manufacturing - in this case BS1088, and manufactured in Palestine.

The sheets were gorgeous, with a more consistent "show veneer" on each side than I can commonly find.

As I generally finish the entire topside/interior of my boats bright (varnished, with a minimum of 10 coats, over a layer of 4oz fiberglass), the wood grain and quality of the laminate is critical to me, and I am often disappointed.

I couldn't stop wondering why the Palestinians couldn't be productive and talented neighbors.

Childish thoughts to be sure, as I don't need to look past my own state for government mandates that nurture institutional conflict and mediocrity, all in the name of controlling and subduing what God has given freely, with no limits.
