That’s the problem of perception sometimes. However girls getting drunk and claiming rape because “it must have been rape! I would have never done that on my own!”. Alchohol can drastically alter our behavior. However there is also the possibility of the use of ‘date rape’ drug which could be then used as “she just got drunk and didn’t know what she was doing.” I’m quite certain that has happened a LOT!

Here is what I tell my kids... my son is 24, I told him he was to NEVER sleep with a drunk girl. Not only is that in poor taste (I hate to admit I said this, but I told him there were plenty of girls who were easy if he wanted sex that bad-but it’s true-especially since he’s a really handsome guy and goodness knows I got enough phone calls from girls when he was a teenager) but it puts him in a vulnerable position later on if the girl decides she really didn’t want it. After the fact.

My daughters (13 and 14) aren’t old enough to go to parties yet, but there is always the chance they sneak off to one. I was a teenager once, I’m not stupid. Anyway, I started preaching in their head to make sure they ALWAYS go with a friend they can trust and ALWAYS insist they remain together. Of course I can’t protect them from everything that can go wrong, or stupid mistakes they make, but I can sure put it in their head.

Excellent advice. They might not call Mom, but they'll always call a friend. Hopefully, they have some level-headed ones....or at least as level-headed as a 13-year-old can be.

My kids are still Sesame-Street age. I'm thinking of locking them in a closet until they're 40, to protect them from some of this stuff. Especially my oldest - what he lacks in common sense, he makes up for in enthusiasm. Scares the crap out of me.

I haven't figured out how I'm going to handle teenage / parties / booze /etc. Having been there and done my fair share of that, I know what goes on, more-or-less. The best that I've come up with is that "If you get in over your head, call me and I will come. Always, no questions asked." But I dunno. Fortunately, I've got some time to figure it out.
