An Associated Press-GfK survey in March found that 54 percent of seniors opposed the legislation that was then taking final shape in Congress, compared with 36 percent of people age 18-50. And last week a USA Today/Gallup Poll found that a majority of seniors said passing the bill was a bad thing â while younger people were positive about it.
There's no doubt that broad cuts in projected Medicare payments to insurance plans, hospitals, nursing homes and other service providers will sting. What hasn't sunk in yet is that the new law also improves the lot of many Medicare beneficiaries. Obama is hoping that most will eventually conclude the plusses outweigh the minuses.
One change has received little attention but could have major consequences. A conservative, is a liberal who has been mugged by reality.
How dare the government interfere with their government handout?
Medicare is NOT a government handout, people pay into it during a lifetime of work.
It’s mismanaged and run by the government, but people pay plenty into it.
So, all the years that seniors paid into the social security program was really just to give handouts for others, not an investment in their golden years? Really?
Not la brats, but lab rats.
What a rip, yet it presages the death panels to come.
Why didn’t Terri Schiavo get booted out of HER hospice at the same point?
