“Suggest you read Tried by War, author James M. McPherson to gain some insight into the tight rope Lincoln had to walk in order bring the war to a successful conclusion.”
That’s true. The tyrant had to be savvy to win. Pardon if I don’t laud his work ethic or leadership.
Not sure why you refer to Lincoln as a tyrant. Concerning his work ethic and leadership; During the war, he was not only president, commander in chief, he was also Joint Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff of the Army as at this time these positions had not been created. When not dealing with congress, the press, the antsy border and western states (now the upper Midwest) He literally worked day and night and spent much of his time sitting by a telegraph machine sending and receiving msgs from his generals in the field. Again, if you are truely interested in this subject give McPherson's book a shot.
