Obama will continue pushing his agenda and that will keep the base fired up. IIRC there’s a special election in May for a congressional seat. We’ll see how that goes.

Well, Charles Karuthammer warns against the GOP assuming that we will have a big win in 2010 because of this health care bill. The Democrats galvanized their disenchanted base with the passage of this bill and like Mark Levin said, big social programs like this usually have good things to show in the short term and it takes a few years for the program to become insolvent, implode and lead to rationing. It is no coincidence that the plan starts to take place AFTER the 2012 elections.

In the meantime, people like Lindsey Graham are trying to help him pass a "bi-partisan" financial regulatory bill while the moves on drilling and investment into nuclear energy also help with independents.
Now that he has this historic health care bill, Obama is the transformative President we all feared he would be. He could not pass another liberal bill by 2012, and he would still be put in the ranks of FDR and Kennedy among Democrats. I don't think we should underestimate the political nature of Obama and the need to get reelected. I don't expect him to pursue Cap and Trade for instance. Not before 2010, and then after 2010 it will be impossible.
