GOP Sees Risks in Push to Repeal Health Law

WASHINGTON -- Top Republicans are increasingly worried that GOP candidates this fall might be burned by a fire that's roaring through the conservative base: demand for the repeal of President Barack Obama's new health care law.

It's fine to criticize the health law and the way Democrats pushed it through Congress without a single GOP vote, these party leaders say. But focusing on its outright repeal carries two big risks.

Repeal is politically and legally unlikely, and grass-roots activists may feel disillusioned by a failed crusade. More important, say strategists from both parties, a fiercely repeal-the-bill stance might prove far less popular in a general election than in a conservative-dominated GOP primary, especially in states such as Illinois and California.

Democrats are counting on that scenario. They say more Americans will learn of the new law's benefits over time and anger over its messy legislative pedigree will fade. For months, Democrats have eagerly catalogued Republican congressional candidates who pledge to repeal the health care law, vowing to make them pay in November.

Republican leaders are stepping cautiously, wary of angering staunchly conservative voters bent on repealing the new law. In recent public comments, they have quietly played down the notion of repealing the law while emphasizing claims that it will hurt jobs, the economy and the deficit.

Repealing it chunk by chunk would be a better idea. Notice, I said chunk by chunk-—not bit by bit.

I agree. But that evades the fundamental problem: conservatives, and especially those few conservative Republicans, need to grow a set . . . big ones . . . and soon.

If the GOP does not begin to REPEAL ObamaCare.....they will be the Third Party in 2010 and 2012....as the Tea Party will become the new top party.

Need to remove all LIBERAL RINOs from the GOP, immediately.

Conservatives are already being set up for betrayal by republican party RINOs. Northeastern libs who run the party along with DC “desk divers” (those who spend most of their elected lives hiding under office furniture) hoping to talk the rank and file republican base out of repeal. It’s just FAAAAAR too dangerous...for the Mitchie McConnells and Juan McCain.s of the world. The NY Times might become annoyed!!

Yet I will not have any disillusions if they fail to attempt repeal, in chunks or in toto (or both).

I will perhaps see more clearly than ever.

This is my voting litmus test: are they decidedly in favor of stopping Øbozocare with an ultimate repeal as our objective? If not I won't vote for them.

RINOs checking their yellow streak.

Predictable.

The whole thing should be repealed and a new bill introduced which better reflects the public needs and views.

MOST Americans oppose this monstrosity. But Obama had the GOP pegged right when he challenged them to repeal it - they are gutless.

NaMES. i WANT THE Names of the “top Republicans” who are terrified by the repeal of the biggest pile of dog shit shoved down Americans’ throats in the last 75 years.

Who are they? They’ll be targeted next.

Don’t give me this crap. It is unpopular, it is unwise, and it is untenable.

KILL THE LAW.

Republican “strategists” and “leaders.”

I notice that they are afraid to reveal their names.

But I’m sure they are busy as little bees, undermining conservative candidates in favor of their own chosen RINOs.
