PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- VT Halter Marine has been awarded a contract to build a fourth Fast Missile Craft for the Egyptian Navy, according to a news release from the company.

The contract, worth about $165 million, with the U.S. Navy brings the total for the program to approximately $807 million, the company stated.

"Halter Marine is proud to partner with the U.S. Navy in the construction of a fourth state-of-the-art FMC vessel, contributing toward the U.S. government's maritime strategy, which helps to secure partners around the world," said Bill Skinner, VT Halter Marine's chief executive officer.

Work on the fourth vessel, which will be built at the company's Pascagoula shipyard, is to begin by mid-2011, and completion is scheduled for the end of 2013, the release stated.

The Fast Missile Craft is designed to perform coastal patrol, surveillance, interdiction, surface strike and naval battle group support, the company reported. The vessels will allow Egypt to maintain the security of its coastal regions.

High speed and maneuverability are two of the ship's primary assets to fulfill these roles, according to the release. The vessels will also incorporate numerous combat system assets and electronic sensors, equipping the vessels with capabilities in anti-aircraft, anti-surface electronic warfare.

VT Halter Marine announced in December 2005 that it had a $29 million design contract for the vessel. Contract modifications were awarded in November 2006 and June 2007, adding $206.5 million. Additional changes raised the contract to $249.2 million. In a second phase, awarded in September 2008, the contract for the first three vessels totaled $642 million.

VT Halter has about 836 workers at its Pascagoula shipyard, stated Leslie Rose, a company spokeswoman. The company also has shipyards at Moss Point Marine and Halter Moss Point.

VT Halter builds military and commercial vessels.

Is it just me, or does the U.S. seem most accommodating in building the military capabilities of the nations with an avowed hatred for Israel?

What avowed hatred? The two countries are at peace with
a treaty and diplomatic relations. Egypt will get the
boats, if not from us them from France, Germany, or
S. Korea.

Anyway this is military aid which has to be spent here,
so look at it as part of the stimulus.

"What avowed hatred? The two countries are at peace with a treaty and diplomatic relations."

Have you ever read about the way Israel is portrayed in the state-run Egyptian media, or known anyone from Egypt who is not a zombie Muslim?

Do you think Egypt would use this or any other advanced military capabilities in defense of their good friends, the Israelis?

Clinton saw to it that Egypt gets lots of U.S. taxpayer dollars to maintain the pretense of "diplomatic relations", which I think it reasonable to conclude they feel they're doing so until the time is right to show their true colors.

Those can be photoshopped in by using a separate, cleaned up layer. A little scaling, a little stretching, and the draftsman looks like a genius.
