I can't find my link to the HTML sandbox, but the way to format italics is to use the "<" carat brackets on either side of an "i" to invoke the portion to be italicized and then to input the carats again, only this time use a "/i" to close the format.

For example: If I want to italicize the text "this is too hard" I would print <.i.> (without the periods)"this is too hard" and then <./i.>

Remove the periods and you get "this is too hard"

If you get stuck you can usually look for the kind of formatting you want to emulate and highlight it. Then right click on the highlighted text and select "View Selection Source". A window will pop up when that text displayed complete with the "invisible" HTML formatting.

Good luck!

THANK YOU!!! Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

I am but a lightweight among many superior minds here. Never had trouble getting italics to work until posting on FR. Felt totally inadequate not being able to figure out why it wouldn’t work.
