I am against the govt subsidizing education loans, but the fact is they do. In fact, 80% of student loans come directly from the USG. The banks keep the interest, yet the govt takes any losses.
Despite my ideological difference, this is a good change to the way things are done.
Yes, I know that some jobs will be lost, but if we are against increased federal debt then this is a positive way to reduce govt spending by billions each year.

Hope and change.... He’s taking about $36,000 per year out of the revenue stream at my small credit union that have been done as a service for our members over the years. No doubt at least one job will be lost because of it and a service to the membership removed.
Just go from Sallie Mae to the govt sector. The govt will need all kinds of expertise in the student loan business. Instead of whining, people need to be smart nowadays.

If Sallie Mae actually were a real business, they would make loans and collect profits and suffer losses like a real business.
I’m not happy about the demise of these folks, who probably thought they were actually doing something productive, but really, this should not have been a surprise to them if they understood the business they were in.
Same story, different day - government gets bigger, number employed productive taxpayers gets smaller.
Sallie Mae, along with Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, should be eliminated. Bloated fake “private” organizations.
