Arizona Governor Jan Brewer was in Tucson on Tuesday. Again, she's demanding the federal government do more to secure the Arizona Mexico border.
Brewer, a Republican, says, "We just have been invaded so harshly by illegal immigrants and the drug cartels, I think it's important that we secure the borders. And I will continue to call on the federal government to step up and do the job that they are responsible for."
Brewer wants to put Arizona's National Guard back on the border...
So far Brewer said federal officials have not responded to her requests. She says, "It's pretty disturbing when you reach out to the federal government, the people that are there to protect us and protect our borders, {and} they don't even respond to the letters, they don't validate that they received it, they don't refuse that they're not going to come. It's just no comment. It's just a deaf ear."

The RINO Guv Brewer, like McQuegg, is suddenly “acting” like a conservative, because she wants to get re-elected.
Not long ago, for months, Brewer was sounding just like a Demonkat, whining that she just couldn’t cut goobermint anymore, and demanding the legislature raise taxes. But the Pubbie legislature fought her hard and refused, so it goes up for a public vote in May.
AM I losing my mind? I thought a Governor could activate their states national Guard at will, and without the “blessing” of the Idiotinchief! That being the case, the GOV of AZ must be an idiot!?

I agree. I thought the same reading this.
They only become subject to federal control when federalized, such as after 911 and the WOT. I also thought the Governors got advance notice of when that call-up would occur.
Till such time as they are called ... the Governor should be able to deploy his/her troops.
Hmmmm, all this “activity” by the illegals is making Sheriff Joe look real good. This makes Obama and his cohorts look bad harassing Sheriff Joe. This could also help swing a few elections towards the Conservatives in Arizona. I thinking of that liberal Congresswoman out of Tucson.

If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t the governor of the state have power to call out the National guard, without the Feds get involved?
But then Obama would Federalize them and have them give each illegal caught a voter registration form.
When the guard was on the border illegal traffic was almost nil. I’d love them to come back!
Our sheriff’s department has called a meeting for farmers, ranchers and anyone else in the county who is concerned for Thursday.
Is there much of a real fence ?
I can only speak for the immediate area around the Port of Entry and yes, it is one heck of a fence, Huge metal girders planted in feet of cement but...the Mexicans just use torches to cut the metal.

Exactly right, fellow FReeper! This is why we have the Second Amendment.
Just put out a call for volunteers, maybe pay them $50 a day and provide food and water like you would for any armed force, and you'll see a quick end to the invasion.
As I posted on another thread, if she would just go ahead and send them, we would save enough in welfare and other benefits to pay for it plus balance the budget.
