We just received the news, we had been getting bits and pieces but living in the US keeps us a bit out of the loop. My wife lives here in the US but her family is still in England. This fallen hero is the brother of my stepson's longtime girlfriend. Please keep his family in your prayers.

REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!
LCpl. of Horse Jonathan Woodgate, Household Cavalry Regiment, Brigade Reconnaissance Force, KIA Afghanistan 26MAR2010
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
Flowers of the Forest
Black Watch Piper
The Soldier
If I should die, think only this of me: That there's some corner of a foreign field That is forever England. There shall be In that rich earth a richer dust concealed; A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware, Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam; A body of England's, breathing English air, Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home. And think, this heart, all evil shed away, A pulse in the eternal mind, no less Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given; Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day; And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness, In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Dammit he was on his last patrol of that cycle.
Rest easy L/CoH Woodgate your work is done. The brothers in Valhalla will greet you with open arms.

THE FINAL INSPECTION
The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you ?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
No, Lord, I guess I aint.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Cant always be a saint.
Ive had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes Ive been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasnt mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
Ive wept unmanly tears.
I know I dont deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If youve a place for me here, Lord,
It neednt be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you dont, Ill understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
Step forward now, you soldier,
Youve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heavens streets,
Youve done your time in Hell.
