From the article: Last year, a study published in the Journal of Economic Perspectives showed Utah had the nation's highest online porn subscription rate per thousand home broadband users, at 5.47, from 2006 to 2008.

Yes, porn is "everywhere"...its market knows few bounds...but some regions -- and surprising ones at that, sanction it & supply the porn industry with more $ than others in distinct ways.

It’s even easier to get hooked on FR than porn.

Yes porn is bad, but I think the Government should but out. It is up to the parents to monitor the Internet activity..

The sexual revolution drove the spread of STDs and out-of-wedlock births. Internet porn just drove up the sale of Jergens and Kleenex.

When the history books are written about the decline and death of western civilization, internet porn will be on page one.

A survey said 70% of all males go to porn sites. In the same survey, 30% of all males lie on surveys.

It isnt only children and youth’s that get hooked on porn. It is adult males of all ages, and yes, females too.

There are so many free sites on the net I cannot understand why anyone would pay. There must be at least hundreds of free sites and thousands of pay sites.

They can be addictive and as all pornography is basically boring the surfing for more and more raw sites is involving hours of surfing.Looking for even more thrilling sites.

Like any addiction it must be beaten by going cold turkey.
Just stop. Unlike cigarettes there is no nicotine patch or pill. You must ask God to help, and you must want that help.
Again like any other addiction you must come to the reality that you are addicted, and face it with determination and the help of God, since no one wants to tell family or wife of their problem.Few will sek professional help, Some may ask their Priest, but shame keeps most from seeking help, and there is no AA for porn.

This seems incrediby low to me. Only 5.47 persons per 1000?

Why isn’t porn taxed heavily?

5.47 per 1000? That means that 994.63 broadband users don’t have porn subscriptions and less than 6 do. Call me skeptical, but this doesn’t strike me as cause for alarm, even if one is easily offended by nekkid womens.

A good cure for pornography should be right up the alley, as it were, for parents in Utah. This is that children need to be socialized to the same and opposite sex from an early age, but always in a chaperoned, safe situation.

Ironically, the parents who are most nervous about their children being exposed to harmful things, have children who are generally very conservative themselves, and are not inclined to stray much. So the worst that usually could happen is that they are just ignorant of the other sex, which is the flip side of the unrealistic expectations created by pornography.

"Internet pornography is the sexual revolution times 1,000," said Patrick Trueman, former chief of the U.S. Department of Justice's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section Criminal Division under President Reagan and President George H.W. Bush.

And Kim Jong-Il, absolute despot of the communist paradise of North Korea, says that his master plan "will be 911 times 2356". (Team America)

Given that the “legitimate” media sexualizes kids (everything from music to tv to magazines), it’s no surprise that porn is big business.

And parties lead to dancing.

Well, there just may be a reason for Utah's leading the nation in online porn subscriptions.

Like, uh, you can't buy porn videos in Utah legally? (Or even Playboy videos, if I'm not mistaken.)

When we were growing up, you really had to go out of your way to see boobies.
Then with the advent of cable television in the 70s, and then the Internet, it doesn’t take any effort at all. It certainly is one of the biggest changes that has occurred in our society over the past 30-40 years.

Yes, porn is a problem. It is quite ubiquitous now and the danger of “stumbling” across the images is even greater. As one poster mentioned, you will get porn hits back from a benign search term.

However, I am firmly of the opinion that this is an individual responsibility for the families to manage. Not the govt’s.

Here is one application that will help. I use it.

You set the parameters and it does a pretty darn good job.

Like many computer defenses, you may not want to count on just one application, you’ll probably want to go with a couple of layers.

Why bother? I just watched episode 3 of The Pacific, and it really had more sexual content than anything remotely dealing with international affairs or historical value in WWII.

IMHO, I would think that even the likes of Spielberg and tom Hanks would find some difficult decisions in the voluminous historical record available on the Pacific Front to occupy every minute of a 20 hr series, and still offer profound choices as to which scenes would make the final cut, but incredibly they’ve cheapened the entire series into nothing more than trash with their myopic preoccupation with sex, gratuitous anti-American scenes and revisionist 21st century impressions of what the 20th century fighting man was preoccupied in their thinking.

What an incredible disgrace and blunder of millions of production funds. Sheer incompetent arrogance of the Hollywood elite.
