Scientists have finally confirmed what the rest of us have suspected for years: Bacon, cheesecake, and other delicious yet fattening foods may be addictive.
A new study in rats suggests that high-fat, high-calorie foods affect the brain in much the same way as cocaine and heroin. When rats consume these foods in great enough quantities, it leads to compulsive eating habits that resemble drug addiction, the study found.
Doing drugs such as cocaine and eating too much junk food both gradually overload the so-called pleasure centers in the brain, according to Paul J. Kenny, Ph.D., an associate professor of molecular therapeutics at the Scripps Research Institute, in Jupiter, Florida. Eventually the pleasure centers "crash," and achieving the same pleasure--or even just feeling normal--requires increasing amounts of the drug or food, says Kenny, the lead author of the study.

THANK YOU, Nancy Reagan & the rest of the Drug Wartriors...I knew long ago that you opened up a can of worms that ordinary Americans would learn to regret!
Food is addictive. Those quitting cold turkey are known to suffer many unpleasant withdrawal symptoms, including death.
This has been known among neuroscientists for years now.
WE NEED A WAR ON FAT FOOD! Jail anyone eating it and anyone caught selling it. We must rid our communities of the pushers and users.
“Cant we force these morons into getting real jobs like the rest of us? Their nanny state bull**** is getting really old.”
LOL! In 20 years, you’ll have to drive into a seedy neighborhood at 2AM to score a kilo of hamburger meat and a rack of ribs, if these morons have their way. IDIOTS!!!
I saw a calorie pusher in the suburbs of Dallas the other day. It’s unbelievable that they have moved out here. /sarc

So would it be possible to beat a cocaine habit by switching to a rich diet?
They are going to take over the food industry the same as the did General Motors.
All socialist/communist governments have controlled the production and distribution of food. It is the perfect weapon against the populace.
It will be easy to do since there are so few farmers/ranchers, and the food industry is dominated by a few giants.
Not to speak of the incredibly powerful Ag Department. Look at how many things the Ag Department does already. How many pies it has its fingers in.
These constant drumbeats about how fat we are is just the beginning.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they’d get back to doing what we CAN’T for ourselves?
In the past 30 years, the number of meat inspectors has been cut drastically - and if you saw how and where your supermarket meat was coming from, you’d puke.
And how about going after the big guys who HIRE the illegals -
They’re all in bed together.
If they think they can control what we eat - all they’ll do is create a food black market.
And michellemahbelle aught to look in a big - WIDE - rear view mirror before she issues edicts on us.
When I first viewed it, I didn’t realize how prophetic the classic film “Demolition Man” would be.
I know it’s very bad. We have to protect people from this. We can’t leave it to them to decide for themselves.
I say jail the sellers and the users. After all, we have to eliminate the demand to eliminate the sales.
