Sure, the sleepers here would rise up and chaos would ensue. But, the one thing is "when your enemy is making a mistake, let him."
That would be the worst time for an invading force to enter the US. What would most likely happen is Americans (with the gov't) rallying against a common enemy.
This is similar to when everyone kept saying Israel should bomb Iran "now" during the protests. All that would do is defeat the revolt.
At most you would have foreign agents attempting to take advantage of the situation and maybe UN troops. But, the UN troops would probably be in a support and security role.
This of course would be coupled with sleepers/enemy agnts that committed attacks in order to further incite violence and destruction. I think that any home-grown American militia would take more pleasure in killing Ahmad than a US servicemeber; no matter what the political divide, ideology, or power grab.
Most folks that seem to lean toward the militia movement are very resentful towards terrorists and feel the US isn't doing enough in Afghanistan. Therefore, I don't see the enemy of my enemy working out in a terrorist or foreign agent's favor.
I think that Rawles has it close. Most of the cities would empty out (especially once entitlement checks stopped flowing) and there would bebands of criminals capitalizing the situation. I also think that most Americans would try to band together in their respective communities. Further, I think the militias and American insurgents wouldn't exactly advertise this.
The US is still small town USA.... and much of the liberal support would come from larger cities.
Another problem is the vast expanse of the US. Figure even securing Iraq and Afghanistan was/is difficult... these COUNTRIES are the size of STATES. And there are 50 of 'em (57+ by Obama's count).
So, it would be no small task. It would be a soup-sandwich as they say if any of this were to come about.
More than likely, Active Duty troops would secure key infrastructure/bases and the National Guard and Reserves would be tasked with putting down the rebellions. But, this would be problematic as the National Guard and Reserves would be facing neighbors and families.
But, this is all conjecture and imagination.
True -- unless enough of the military mutinied. Then Obama might ask for non-English speaking troops to be sent here as a UN "peacekeeping" force to put down his own military.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts in a well written manner. Regarding your last comment, you can virtually guarantee that this has all been gamed out somewhere in the Pentagon.
