Marlin Firearms to close North Haven factory next year

NORTH HAVEN (AP) — Marlin Firearms Co., a 140-year-old company which made a gun that was a favorite of Annie Oakley, is closing its Connecticut plant, company officials said Friday.

Workers at the Kenna Drive plant in North Haven say they've been told all 265 employees will lose their jobs over the course of the next 18 months.

Jessica Kallam, a spokeswoman with Madison, N.C.'s Remington Arms Co. Inc., which acquired Marlin two and a half years ago, said the Connecticut plant will close by June 2011 and employees would be offered severance and help finding jobs. She said Marlin is relocating its manufacturing operations to an undetermined site.

Kallam could not confirm if all employees in Connecticut are losing their jobs.

Every red state should make it their policy to encourage migration of the blue state manufacturing base to red states - especially firearms and ammunition makers.

Well, they managed to hold on for 140 years as Connecticut turned increasingly liberal. I used to drive by the building where their factory was. It looked like one of the last manufacturing plants still operating in those parts.

Too bad, really. Connecticut used to be a good place until the commuters moved in and overwhelmed it.

“Every red state should make it their policy to encourage migration of the blue state manufacturing base to red states”
and I’ll add, but please leave your da*n liberal progressive union members and their families behind. Those people will never adapt and embrace the culture of a conservative area and will bring their horrendous voting practices with them. They are like dogs that haven’t learned not to piss and *hit where they sleep and eat.

ahh, as a life long resident and commuter I can tell you it’s not them that ruined it. Sure there are more elite leftists than in the past but for the most part Fairfield County where all of the commuters live is still Republican. Sure many of them are country club republicans but still not hard core democrats. The rest of the state with what’s left of the union workers and off course the cities of New Haven, Bridgeport and Hartford which are nearly 80% minority and/or illegals is what makes the state solidly blue.

Winchester’s gone and now Marlin... ...this just sucks.

I’ve never understood why Colt, Springfield Arms, and all the rest could ever stay put in what is essentially now “libland”...

Frankly, I’m suprised the libs didn’t shut them all down a long time ago.

Little known fact. When Bill Casey was director of the CIA, he arranged with the Cabazon indian tribe to build weapons on their land out in california. Since that Indian nation is considered a sovereign nation so weapons export laws did not apply because they flew them in and out from their nation.

Wonder if some of these companies can relocate to some of these tribal lands?

There have been rumors of a gun manufacturer moving to the SE OK area for some time. The county, city and state government have been winking and nodding an announcement is in the offing. This might be it.

I hope we see a lot more of companies closing their doors in states where the people voted for Ubanga. Let them suffer the communism they brought on themselves.

Reagan was the last real conservative. McCain was a joke, although I was forced to vote for him. But what I really wanted to say was, I live in North Haven we’ve had 1 Democrat Selectman in over a hundred years, and that was just to clean house, the following year right back to a Republican. So you can see North Haven is not a liberal town. The closing of Marlin affects my friends, family and neighbors, who are members of the NRA and for the most part vote conservative. I can’t stand you mindless idiots who don’t see the bigger picture and that is 265 God-fearing gun makers are losing there jobs....
