TUCSON They have rarely spoken in 17 months. Their relationship, as America now knows, turned testy before they parted ways. But as at many family reunions, the old feelings were set aside as Sarah Palin embraced Senator John McCain here on Friday and argued that he should not be unseated by a conservative challenger.
We need this new blood coming into the system and new party officials and folks who are willing to stand up and speak out for common-sense conservative solutions, Ms. Palin said. But we also need statesmen and heroes like John McCain to help us get through these challenging times.
As he faces a primary challenge in his bid for a fifth term in the Senate, Mr. McCain asked for help in shoring up restless Republicans. Ms. Palin answered the call, and thousands arrived to see the pair again. Cindy McCain, who does few political events these days, was on hand to introduce Ms. Palin. And Todd Palin stood behind, smiling.
The Pima County Fairgrounds, on the edge of Tucson, carried an air of nostalgia for the most recent Republican ticket. Cars and pickup trucks, many with blue McCain-Palin bumper stickers, lined up for miles. In between country and rock songs, fans chanted, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah.
For Mr. McCain, it was perhaps his biggest audience since losing the presidency. He received enthusiastic applause, but the roar of the crowd was for Ms. Palin. Her name appeared on T-shirts and buttons, with many of her supporters scooping up Palin 2012 merchandise as they waited for an autograph or a picture.
Ms. Palin was her usual bouncy and folksy self, speaking rapidly and cracking jokes. Mr. McCain stood behind her, smiling gamely.

This is the dumbest thing she has ever done.
I am for her at this point for President, but if he seizes the GOP Arizona US Senate nomination from Hayworth and it is directly attributable to her efforts, you will see me dropping my support of her for President. I think many others around here feel the same way about this coddling of RINOs.
The RINO is desperately trying to hang on. He’s brazenly trying to ‘cash in’ on Sarah’s popularity with the right wing.
If people here do not understand what is going on with McCain read this story. NY Times saying nice soft things when they usually call Sarah the devil. McCain is a DEM mole.
The Dems gained control of Congress (2006/2008) and the White House thanks to McCain-Feingold. MCCain stabs us in the back at EVERY turn. The NY Times LOVES McCain.
See the puff piece here? They are talking how sarah is so cutesy. Total setup. The lib news media is now saying nice things about Sarah as she sells out for evil old McCain. Sickening.
They will call her the devil 24x7x365 after this unless McCain tells the NY Times “it’s okay - I got her to sell out - she is one of us now - Mr. Soros signed off on it.”
She needs to stop now and avoid doing more damage this McQueeg thing and Perry are the worst mistakes she has done to date.
Sounds like your strategy is one of ‘spitefulness’.
Smiling gamely???
He could hardly contain himself. He knows how darned lucky he is to have a real American on his side.
Why would you wait until then?
The act has happened now.

Good point.
Prolly meant to write smelling gamely.
This is incomprehensible. I got off the Palin bus a few stops back.
He is, and as a result she has sabotaged her own self.
This time around, people walking across the aisle is no longer acceptable or catchy. The communist dems have showed us where bipartisanship on our side has taken us.
It will take people who have no desire to walk across any aisle and are set to RESTORE America.
My slogan for 2010 and 2012.
Question Palin’s credibility —> backing McCain...
No you have to attack the problem completely. You don’t cut out half the tumor. RINOs must go.
I stayed until this. Now I am off the bus and praying for a real Conservative.
I believe that John McCain and Lindsey Graham are primarily motivated by 'self-promoting interests', more so than conservative principles or any belief-foundation. That is why they are both always on the 'tube' and trying be the first 'to accommodate' with the other side outside of party direction. I believe therefore that both of these individuals should be voted out (if not re-called outright).
Sarah Palin is not primarily motivated by self interest. What motivates her is the desire to see conservative principles triumph over the leftist agenda.
I believe that she is 'paying back' a debt to the ONE INDIVIDUAL who has made it possible for her to be WHERE SHE IS NOW.
For all of those complaining about Sarah supporting McCain and whining that she has lost their support, then go and find a candidate that is more popular with the grass roots AND has a better TRACK RECORD than Sarah Palin for moving conservative principles forward.
Fair enough!
Now, tell us "WHO" out there do you think will run (and has a chance to win) that fits your criteria of a 'REAL CONSERVATIVE"?
