Cambridge will turn off all nonessential lights in municipal buildings for one hour Saturday, starting at 8:30 p.m., in support of Earth Hour.
Turning out the lights for Earth Hour is intended to serve as a call for action on climate change and to symbolize a positive impact can be made by working together.
The city will turn out non-essential lights for one hour, and residents are encouraged to do the same Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
This year is the third year of the Earth Hour event which attracted more than 80 million participants in the U.S. last year, and nearly a billion people around the world, as lights dimmed on such global icons as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Sydneys Opera House, the Great Pyramids of Giza and New Yorks Empire State Building.

Pretend you live in North Korea like a good little Comrade.
I got cash at the Wells Fargo ATM yesterday. They have a absolutely asinine little advert telling you to douse your lights for an hour. The LAST thing I need or want is my BANK (for crying out loud) telling me how to live my life or how much energy to use. I decided I will have to turn every light in the house on during that hour.
Good God, I hate these smarmy, know-it-all, holier-than-thou libs who want to run our lives for us. Electricity is one of the hallmark achievements of mankind and civilization, the invention that has made our lives immeasurably better, safer and healthier. Exactly WHAT do these cretins think has advanced our life expectancy so much? It sure wasn’t sitting in the dark around a flickering candle singing kumbayah.
Sorry, Robin. That’s not the way power plants work. No demand, juice ain’t generated. Automatic control systems reduce output to match demand.
I’m going to turn on my lights and curse the eco-nannies.

How do they know this? I read it was a failure.

Saving only half of the planet?
Our mission is to hear what the leftists and socialists that are running the country and the media. Then do the opposite. You should encourage everyone you know to turn all the lights on, run appliances, ovens, furnaces, air conditioners if need be in the south, run your car and any outside power equipment.
HAVE FUN on Stupid Earth Hour!!
I smell a BBQ tomorrow with all my power on!
Australia must monitor frequency and voltage rises during this stupid gesture. The grid keepers are not fans of this stupid action by the moonbats.
Shouldn't the obvious question be why nonessential lights in municipal buildings are left on Saturday nights in the first place? Cambridge is going to have to pay someone two hours of overtime to turn those lights on and off.
Makes a guy wished he lived there and had some huge old fashioned search lights(WWII style)that he could turn on at the appropriate time. Preferably at least one with the bat signal embedded in it.
Comrade, the way things are going, soon we wont have to pretend.
Just as an after thought: Does this mean that N. Korea is the greenest country on the planet earth? They never have lights on after dark. I guess we will have to hold them up as the new “green” example, eh?
BTW I call it Spring Power Hour and test every light in the home. :^)
***** “ Well isnt that special “ *******
Them folks will probably take credit for saving the World “AGAIN” when everyone knows that it’s “ME”
I save the World every year by Yodeling a Slim Whitman song with one eye closed, naked (except for face paint and a bone in my nose) facing south, hugging a tree while a dozen salamanders slither in my hair (if I had hair) all at exactly 1432 GMT Wednesday
I’ve got a couple of 500 watt portable flood lights, I’ll put those out on the front lawn and then turn on every light in the house.
What is a non-essential light? And if it is not essential, why the h3ll is it on in the first place?
I have an old railroad tie that's still dripping creosote. Maybe that will be a good night to return it all back to nature.
LOL!!!
