A German police investigator says John Demjanjuk's name is on papers detailing the transfer of guards from an SS training camp to the Nazi's Sobibor death camp.

Demjanjuk, a retired Ohio auto worker who was once a Soviet soldier, is accused of agreeing to serve the SS as a guard at Sobibor after his capture. He is standing trial on 27,900 counts of accessory to murder.

He says he was never at Sobibor and is being mistaken for someone else.

From what I’ve learned, some camps were concentration camps, some were work camps....but Sobibor was a true death camp. Socialism must kill to survive.

The Nazi's captured so many Soviet soldiers in Ukraine they couldn't handle the numbers. So they just marched them out into the fields and surrounded them with barbed wire and a few machine guns. The captured Ukrainian soldiers were starved to death until their numbers were reduced to a manageable level. Then some were offered jobs as camp guards without being told exactly what sort of camps. Most anyone would have said yes.

Let that old man die in peace.

This trial is just Germany’s attempt to tell the world that it wasn’t just Germans who were guilty of the Holocaust.

What was Demjanjuk’s choice, had he not gone along, he most certainly would have been killed by the Nazis. I think that should be considered.

IIRC the Demanjuk case was complicated because he has already been accused as a guard in another camp. The US Government had documents proving he was not, and kind of forgot to timely give them to Demanjuk’s attorneys.

Now he is being accused of being a different guard.

He is an old man, there are no reliable witnesses or evidence, and he has already been falsely accused.

If he was the level of an Eichmann or similar NAZI there would still be reliable evidence. He is not, and the evidence is really questionable.

How can we be sure our own government will remember evidence in this case in a timely fashion...like immediately?
