In New Jersey you may register as Republican, Democrat or unaffiliated. You have to be registered in a party to work the polls, which I’ve been doing since sometime in the ‘80s. They put two from each party at each polling place, though I suspect RATs register Pub in some questionable districts so they can get control of the voting.
