MARCH 25, 2010 U.S. Softens Sanction Plan Against Iran
BY DAVID CRAWFORD, RICHARD BOUDREAUX, JOE LAURIA AND JAY SOLOMON
VIENNAThe U.S. has backed away from pursuing a number of tough measures against Iran in order to win support from Russia and China for a new United Nations Security Council resolution on sanctions, according to people familiar with the matter.
Among provisions removed from the original draft resolution the U.S. sent to key allies last month were sanctions aimed at choking off Tehran's access to international banking services and capital markets, and closing international airspace and waters to Iran's national air cargo and shipping lines, according to the people.
The U.S. and allies are trying to force Iran to rein ...
Not only is Obammy clueless, he is also ball-less (is that a word even?). What a spineless wimp.
It’s “reverse-parallel-universe” day, EVERYDAY, in Obamaworld.
Eunuch (or Unick) - no balls.
What’s the surprise here? We all knew Jack Squat and Hitlery were going to do this. I have said it once and I will say it again....this Jack Squat idiot filled administration has literally accepted Iran as a nuclear fact.
These boobs don't realize that peace is never won through weakness......Never!
Well to bring in a different kind of view.
This may sound very bad from the beginning, but in the
end this could even help to sanction Iran.
Just think about it. What is the better deal.
A US unilateral tough aproach to sanction Iran (which nobody
outside of the US is willing to follow and there for is
pretty worthless in the end) or try to bring in some other
nations too even if this means that you will not get this
“serious” sanctions that you might want?
But i still think that in the end some sanctions will do more than no
sanctions at all.
I disagree. This Obama ‘policy’ only guarantees that this will end in war or a nuclear Iran. Sanctions like these never work.
Maybe, but the big problem when talking about how you can sanction Iran is the detail that “really tough” sanctions
against Iran are not in the national interesst of many countries. So for example the original Us plan to...
“ choking off Tehran’s access to international banking services and capital markets, and closing international airspace and waters to Iran’s national air cargo and shipping lines”... isn´t “worth” the paper it was written
on because i guarantee you that NO ONE beside the US and Israel
would be in favour (or even think about it) to do this.
Simple because of the fact this would not serve their national interessts. Just for example. In generall the EU
has zero interesst to stop all civil trade with Iran, Russia/China has zero interesst for a generallweapon embargo against
Iran (because it would hurt their military exports)...
The list goes on and on.
So unfortunately it´s not that simple to sanction Iran because the US/Israel position on Iran is not shared (or
more important not profitable) from many countries in this world. Just think about it. What would it change if the US starts a tough aproach to sanction Iran without any backup from other nations? It would not be woth the Paper it was written on because as said no body would even think about it. And this would mean nothing would change at all.
Iran would still happily trade with the EU (because as said not even the EU would be willing to only think about this paper) and then spend the earned money in Russia or china for weapons as it is done right now.
So a little “softer” aproach could really hurt Iran more in
the long run.
The list, ping
...else it might make his fellow muslim friends upset with him.
