LOS ANGELES -- Robert Culp, the actor who teamed with Bill Cosby in the racially groundbreaking TV series "I Spy" and was Bob in the critically acclaimed sex comedy "Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice," died Wednesday after collapsing outside his Hollywood home, his manager said. Culp was 79.

Manager Hillard Elkins said the actor was on a walk when he fell. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead just before noon. The actor's son was told he died of a heart attack, Elkins said, though police were unsure if the fall was medically related.

Los Angeles police Lt. Robert Binder said no foul play was suspected. Binder said a jogger found Culp, who apparently fell and struck his head.

"I Spy" greatly advanced the careers of Culp and Cosby and forged a lifelong friendship. Cosby said Wednesday Culp was like an older brother to him.

The only thing I remember him in was “The Greatest American Hero”. I always get him mixed up with the guy that played hannibal on “A-team”.

The initial report from ABC radio news claimed that he was 97 years old.....

A little bit of trivia. He was chosen to be Commander John Koenig of Moonbase Alpha on “Space:1999”. He turned down the role and Martin Landau was chosen.

...this is sort of sad for me, because my older brother who I lost about 6 years ago had an uncanny resemblance to Mr Culp on March 12,2004

Ugh.
Very Sad.
I was big fan of his from I Spy to Greatest American Hero and beyond.
Seen him in a few Raymond episodes as the wifes father.
Good stuff.

From what i’ve read Cosby should kiss his shoes for helping him become famous.

RIP

I was a really big fan of this guys work. All the I spys and greatest american hero are on hulu.com On you tube you can find stuff from his days as a Hollywood Cowboy especially his series Trackdown. He actually was THE fastest gun in Hollywood at one point in the 1950’s. And I mean off screen. They clocked his draw and he could put a bullet into a target while he was doing it, he did trick riding and trick shooting at rodeos. He was actually faster than Sammy Davis Jr. He was one of the few Hollywood Cowboys who was actually as proficient off screen as he was on screen at riding and shooting. One of a kind.

You know, he was only 5 years older than my dad. I always thought he resembled him, more and more so as they aged.
