Why would you sever it when you can just unscrew it?
.....and watch the contents totally empty in mere seconds, making it pretty much non-lethal unless:
#1. you were next going to club the owner over the head with the empty tank,
#2....or stand in the bushes and laugh hysterically as he has to go somewhere and purchase a fresh tank with his wife screaming at him loud enough for the neighbors to hear that he's "holding up dinner", and "I thought you said you checked the tank!!".
Why would you sever it when you can just unscrew it?

I find that curious, I wonder what brand it is.
My Aunt had the same thing happen with her old gas grill and worried kids had come into her backyard and done it.
I thought that a bit odd, why would kids do such a thing.
I wonder if there’s a brand of gas grill that has an issue with the gas lines?
“Why would you sever it when you can just unscrew it?”
As a smart conservative you would know this, any liberal wouldn’t.
When you unscrew the line from a propane tank you remove the pin that opens a safety valve. A properly operating propane tank will not spill or leak when the hose is removed. If you slit the line it could probably spill and create a terrible hazard, especially in a confined space. Propane is heavier than air and does not disperse quickly, even outdoors.
