I just had to modify your “friend’s” post.

This is how it will be written in a few years:

This morning I slept late because the alarm clock didn’t work; the electric utilities mandatory rationing policy left power off between 2:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.. It didn’t matter anyway because I’m still looking for employment since Caterpillar shut down, and the stimulus jobs I’ve heard about aren’t there. Anyway, it was freezing in the house because the government-controlled thermostat had the temperature at 60 degrees. Well, it’s all about saving the earth, so I guess it’s OK! After that, I turned on the TV to watch the re-run of President 0bama’s major policy speech last night, which was followed by an hour of favorable commentary by the network pundits. I watched this while having my food rationed breakfast, limited to 450 calories as prescribed by the Department of Agriculture and Health Administration.

Then I took my son outside to stand in line for the public transportation bus to take him to the government health clinic. It’s been so cold in the house he caught a sinus infection and hasn’t been able to shake it, but fortunately I was able to bribe the appointments secretary at the clinic last month to get him an appointment as early as today. Unfortunately, the public transport was late; it seems that the battery had gotten old and the local government didn’t get the federal grant they wanted to get a new one. They say the Chinese have cut back on shipments of new batteries to America because “our money is no good.” So the old battery didn’t hold a charge when they tried to re-charge it last night and we had to wait while they rounded up a spare.

Well, we did finally make it to the clinic, but we were late so we didn’t get to have our appointment with the doctor. Now we either have to wait another two months or I’ll have to bribe the appointment secretary again. So my son missed school again today, and he’ll be late handing in his paper on how Barack 0bama has transcended a racially bigoted society to bring us all a new hope.

When we finally got back home, the officers from the Environmental Compliance Office were there to do another random inspection. The discovered that I had not had the properly licensed government contractor clean out my air ducts within the last year. I intended to get around to it but hadn’t. But because I’d declared that the ducts had been cleaned on my 1040 tax form, they assessed an environmental late fee AND a tax penalty on me. That’s going to come out of my government housing and energy stipend, so it means we are going to have to not use any water for one day per week, and there will be 2 additional hours of no electricity in the flat per day. The only other thing would be to see if I could find some cash only odd jobs around the neighborhood, but since they took down all border restrictions ten years ago, all those jobs have been filled by our Latino friends. You know, the ones who live in the nice houses down by the lake where we used to live. Now they have all the cash and the Inspectors never seem to go check them for compliance.

Sometimes I’m so frustrated I wish I could vent about it, but since the short list of approved internet sites runs scans for “hate speech” for anyone who is deemed to criticize government policies, I’d better just keep things to myself...
