Don’t take Cornyn as a bellweather.

He is the Handmaiden of KBH.

"There is non-controversial stuff here like the preexisting conditions exclusion and those sorts of things,"

Unfortunately, this "non-controversial stuff" like the preexisting conditions exclusion is what is going to bankrupt the insurance industry. So you repeal everything but this, then what do you do when the insurance companies fold? The government will have no choice but to come in with a public option. Maybe he thinks conservatives will feel better about it if it's passed by a Republican majority and called Cornyncare...

“By November they will be telling us how great Health Care is. Bunch of spineless wimps.”

You’re right, but I think it is ideological.

Most people I talk to think they’ll be getting something like Medicare or Medicaid, government programs people are familiar with. When informed they are forced to buy from private companies, they are alarmed.

That provision is what most people agree upon is wrong. That provision is, ideologically, very close to Republican ideology in the last 15 or so years, fascism or compassionate conservatism. The minions experience it like a business cult.

They are shocked, they keep trying to find some detail in the bill that will explain that this bill did not come from the industries they have a cult-like attachment too, but was imposed on these industries.

There is the whole matter of federalization of care standards that is awful, but of little seeming interest.

This bill may truly end up being someone’s Waterloo- both sides are going to try to tinker with it, and it will be a hot potato for some time. But unfortunately, with a Cloward-Piven strategy, we’ll be juggling multiple hot ‘taters at once.

There is a Conservative Party already. But like most it will never gain traction. It will be a detractor. I understand the frustration, however, returning our party to its’ basics is the solution, not jumping ship when things are rough. Those that are registering as Independents, Libertarians, or Conservatives are only doing “feel good” actions. There are two parties. Period.

Precisely the WRONG message to send to the troops.

But what else did we expect.

With armed IRS agents at your door to collect your mandated premium its a tax more than insurance.

I wonder first of all if bravery/stupidity, is going to be one of the job requirements. Knowing what I do, I would not be standing in line for one of those jobs. The mortality rate might just be kinda high, unless you had air support and a main battle tank as backup and even then...

We patriots can pick whichever fascist utopia we prefer: Dem or GOP.

Both visions support abortion. Last I checked the recent GOP majorities allowed abortion to continue unchecked.

That would explain his current stupidity. He is just one notch below Graham in sheer idiocy.

THE best thing for DC..is that this bill passed...there is enough in it to horsetrade for another 15 years...and entertain the Republicrats ....The Pubbies will get to play with the toys even without taking the heat.

Its about power...has NOTHING to do with “healthcare” other than that’s the excuse for a power grab...

Truth be told...The Repblicrat’s-they’d love to have this thing pass...and then take the House and Senate in 2010. They would then have a lot of power to play with.

The Dem-Republican Good Cop-Bad Cop con routine is the longest running, most successful play of that con anywhere in the world.

The real game is DC versus Flyover Country. It does’nt come to an end until all in Flyover Country finally get it. IMHO, they are just starting to wake up.

McCain offered that with health insurance pools similiar to what’s available with high risk property and auto insurance on a state by state basis. The percentage of business the company writes in the state, they must take that same percent in the pool.

The Dems balked at that.

There is NO DOUBT that pre-existing conditions issues need to be met. But to make mandatory for every insurance company is impossible.

We might be insane, but you obviously don’t understand how insurance is rated.

Amazing how much vitriol there is in this thread. I understand people are frustrated as am I but everyone needs to take a deep breadth and calm down.

So what I am hearing from most of the posters here is that if one of our fellow citizens is unlucky enough God forbid to have a child with a serious medical condition, we should just throw them to the wolves and say sorry, you’re on your own. I’m sorry but that’s not the way I was raised.

This is not a question of personal responsibility or planning for your future or any of that. The fact is, sometimes people get sick. It’s beyond our control. Should those people be left to fend for themselves or should society help them?

There needs to be some provision to ensure everyone can buy insurance if they choose to and to ensure they can keep that insurance even if they get sick. Obviously the monstrosity that was signed into law today is not the answer, but there needs to be an answer.
