The Declaration of Dependence
Political Mavens ^ | 22 March 2010 | Doug Gamble

With the passage of so-called health care reform, the United States of America that we have known will eventually cease to exist. This legislation begins the end of an America with emphasis on the individual and the beginning of an America with emphasis on the government. The transformation will eventually kill the American spirit and America’s greatness forever. Anyone who thinks the new law is only about health care does not understand the ramifications. Now that a former community organizer has succeeded in the start of reorganizing the way of life of the once most free country on earth, anything is possible.

While many of my conservative friends were mocking and writing off President Barack Obama with every drop in his polls, and losses for the Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, now rendered maningless, I was reluctant to join in the celebration. My fear was that, no matter how low his approval ratings went, he could still do tremendous damage to the country between now and the elections this November. His “health care” reform, becoming the law of the land despite overwhelming public opposition, bears this out.

And the damage will continue. With so many Democrats having committed political suicide vis a vis health care, they will probably now vote in favor of everything else on Obama’s agenda, be it cap-and-tax, citizenship for illegals to create more Democrat voters, takeover of the energy industry and whatever else he has in his Little Red Book.  These Democrats know they’ll lose in November anyway, so they might as well give Obama everything that he and they want as they’re plunging over the cliff.

Talk of repealing the new health care law will amount to nothing more than talk, election campaign sloganeering. To quote an old cliché, the toothpaste is out of the tube and it can’t be put back in. The law will never be repealed. As years pass, the anger fades and Americans adjust to all government all the time, there may be a few diehard “repealers” who, lumped in with “birthers” and “truthers,” will be dismissed as nut cases.

Because the law is not so much about health care as it is a vehicle for government intrusion into every corner of our lives and the start of an ever-mounting dependence on Washington, Americans who used to be addicted to freedom will eventually become addicted to government. The red, white and blue of the American soul have now begun their morph into socialist grey.

As seniors die out, their demise hastened by the $500-billion cuts in Medicare, it won’t be long before we become a country whose population has no knowledge of the great nation America once was. It certainly won’t be taught in our schools in the future when it isn’t taught now. With future generations, the suspicion of government that has been an American hallmark will be replaced by suspicion of those who don’t believe in being beholden to government.

Last 4th of July was the saddest I’ve ever observed because I knew it was the last 4th when America would resemble the country it used to be. I feared Obama would succeed in fundamentally transforming America, as he promised, doing to us from within what no foreign enemy has been able to do to us from without. Now that he has succeeded, this 4th of July will be just another day, a day without meaning. Why celebrate the overthrow of a tyranny when another tyranny is now taking shape?

The Declaration of Independence has been overridden by the Declaration of Dependence, the new law that is about so much more than health care. The America we’ve known was a bold and wondrous experiment that lasted 234 years, now forced into failure by a band of socialists, the “Unfounding Fathers.”  While President Ronald Reagan’s America was about the greatness of the American people and what could be achieved through freedom, ingenuity and hard work, Obama’s America is one of committees, boards, panels and bureucrats and how the American people cannot achieve without them.

I’ve loved America’s freedom, entrepreneurship, optimism, creativity, capitalism, gung-ho attitude, lump-in-the-throat patriotism and, most of all, the American spirit, the belief that anything is possible and dreams can come true. All that will end as American exceptionalism transforms into European-style ordinariness.

Those of us who experienced America’s best days will carry the memories to our death beds. What a shame the generations that follow us will never know what we have been so privileged to enjoy.

Goodbye America. It’s been great to know you.

Same here. I sincerely hope I can continue doing that in the USA.

There is nowhere else to go unless you get your own island or something. This country is VERY much worth standing up for. It is hard but in the end we will have a new freedom and liberty.

In our new country, we'll have the Statue of Entitlement and the Declaration of Dependence.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. It's just that some are more equal than others."

Folks, they took over the schools and the rest was only a matter of time.

They’ll have to pry the U.S. Constitution from my cold dead hands — there are children to think about.

I like the thought of recall votes. I don’t know how to start one, though

There is a way to take back the schools. We must run for and get elected to the local school boards and also educate to public that the proper role of the local board is to represent the TAXPAYER. Most people don't know this and usually TEACHERS get elected to these positions. Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse ....

The ballot box has failed, quite obviously. We've written, called, e-mailed, faxed, protested, and marched. Those in Congress and the White House and all other federal institutions mock us, belittle us, and ultimately ignore us. They classify us as potential terrorists. They control the media, the courts, the police, the military, the schools, the unions; the list goes on and on. They have endless ways with which to harass us. They take and take, and we just grumble about it and continue working and producing, hoping that someone, anyone, will finally stand up for us and fight our fight so we can keep living our lives, because we have dependents and a mortgage, maybe a car payment or two, medical bills, electrical bills, gas bills...

They are not afraid of the citizenry. It shows in everything they say and do. They must be made to fear us before the power-mad would-be dictators at the Capitol will curtail their ways.

I've heard lots of theories over the years. These discussions usually end with, "Well, we'll just vote them out in [insert relevant election date here]. We just need to wait for [insert name of this month's political golden child here] to get into office."

It never works!

Bringing commerce to a halt for 15 days would be more effective, but it would only be a minor irritant. "Going Galt," as they say, is one potentially effective, non-violent tactic, but is it sustainable? Will the producers "Go Galt" in sufficient numbers and for sufficiently long to actually starve the beast in Washington, D.C., and bring the federal government to its knees? I'd like to see it, but I remain dubious.

Unfortunately, I see no better, more productive, and ultimately successful way to refresh the Tree of Liberty than with its natural manure. For your edification:
