WASHINGTON -- As a Democrat from a conservative district in a red state, Rep. Brad Ellsworth has always relied on shrewd political instincts and good timing.
The former local county sheriff is as law-and-order as they come and is the only way Democrats are able to play in a right-leaning state like Indiana.
It was only with help from Democrats like Ellsworth in 2008 that President Obama was able to snatch the state from Republicans for the first time in nearly 50 years.
But all of Ellsworth's charm and luck may be about to run out.
After weeks of intense pressure from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Obama himself, Ellsworth became one of a handful of centrist Democrats who voted "yes" on health care.

“that President Obama was able to snatch the state from Republicans for the first time in nearly 50 years.”
I was never more sick in my entire life. What happened yesterday was immediately excepted the night he was elected, and for Indiana to turn blue was a nightmare.
We had people in Northern Indiana with Obama and Mitch Daniels signs in there yards. You knew they were duped, at that point.
Merely one the loads to be flushed in the November election!
Northwest Indiana is home to Gary, a Democratic stronghold. Adjacent to that is Porter Country, likely conservative. Northcentral and northeast Indiana used to be conservative, but I imagine that is changing too.
The conservatism if IN is mostly a myth just relative to its eastern and western neighbors. For years, IN sent predictable liberals Birch Bayh and Vance Hartke to the Senate. Then they replaced Hartke with RICHARD LUGAR, hardly an improvement.
I just wonder how many Democrats were pigeonholed in DC and believed the constant lies that “this is what the American people want” from the snakes Pelosi and Obama only to find out poll after poll after poll is VERY unhappy about this?
Those trends have been reversed by the communist party and chairman obamao.

I’m from Indiana. Mike Pence is my rep, but I will be contributing to whoever is running against Ellsworth and Baron Hill. They are low life scum bags.
Baron Hill is quoted in this morning’s paper about how stupid we voters are because we don’t understand how this $hit sandwich is good for us.
They don’t understand that we are offended by them forcing upon us what they deem to be good for us. Even if something is good for us we have a right in a free country to refuse or reject it. Liver is good for me, but I am glad I have the right to never eat it.
“as law-and-order as they come and is the only way Democrats are able to play in a right-leaning state like Indiana”
Just goes to show you that Democrats must pretend to be something they are not (fiscal and social conservatives) in order to get elected in many parts of this state. Then, a vote like Obamacare reveals their true intentions and ideology.
Good luck with that Senate campaign Mr. Ellsworth!
Democratic Party Translation: lies, kickbacks, intimidation, ACORN, .....
Tell me about it! I live in Hamilton County, the most reliably Republican County in Indiana and one of the most reliably Republican Counties in the USA. Even though McCain got a majority of votes in Hamilton County, he pulled 28,000 fewer votes than Mitch Daniels. That was 0bama’s statewide margin of victory.
In a way, 0bama won Indiana right here in a republican stronghold.
Brad Ellsworth is toast.
Sounds like McCain is the one who gave us Obama. Getting fewer votes than other republicans on the ballot is what happens to him in Arizona all the time.
THE FIRST VOTE in a new Congress is for the Speaker of the House. Dems ALWAYS vote for a Dem Speaker; Repubs ALWAYS vote for a Repub Speaker. IIRC, there have only been two occasions, two votes, in the history of this Republic that crossed the aisle. If you elect a Dem, conservative or not, you get the likes of Nancy Pelosi!
For those in districts with "conservative" Democrats, he/she is not your friend. Let me reiterate. When it comes down to it, there is no such thing as a conservative Democrat.
The opponents of those dirtbags must be raking in the dough already.
mike is my rep also. where are you from?
